NAIDOC WEEK
It’s been an amazing week of celebrating NAIDOC Week at West – a time where we celebrate the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Our children have taken part in many cultural activities during the week, and we thank the following people for running these educational events:
Corey Payne and Elisha Mangal - Rock Paintings
Christina & Kristy Brims & Jane Barnes – damper making
Billie Brims – traditional dance
Colleen Johnson – story telling
Willie Hannah – aboriginal artefacts
Clontarf Academy – sporting games
MDAS – BBQ lunch
We will hold a Special Assembly on Friday morning in the gym. All parents/carers are welcome and encouraged to attend.
As part of our celebrations, we will have a FREE BBQ lunch on Friday. Students will need to bring their snack for recess, as usual, and the canteen will have the usual snacks and drinks for sale, but there will be NO LUNCH ORDERS on Friday.

Our New Playground
The new playground arrived on two trucks on Tuesday afternoon! The busy task of now installing each part of the playground will continue until at least Friday. There has been plenty of interest shown by the students at the diggers, concrete trucks and progress of the build. We look forward to the grand opening next week. Stay tuned!!
Grade 1/2 CommBank Visit
We recently welcomed Joanne from Start Smart to deliver their free, financial education workshop to our Year 1 & 2 students. Start Smart aims to change the way young people learn about money. By making money management interactive, engaging and fun, our students were equipped with the confidence and competence they need to make smart decisions about money.
WATER WEEK POSTERS
We have some amazing Water Week Posters entered in the Lower Murray Water Competition.
We will find out the results in October!

5P Seed Dispersal Lake Ranfurly Last Thursday a very enthusiastic team, 5P, visited Lake Ranfurly for seed dispersal and clean up action! A range of native indigenous seed was dispersed in areas where there had been off-track driving or the vegetation had died out. A group of boys discovered and dismantled a bike jump area that was causing a lot of destruction to the environment. Thank you to Nardia Baker for all the behind the scenes preparation especially collecting all the different seeds.
Rubbish Free Wednesdays! The lucky winner of the $5:00 Canteen voucher for being rubbish free every day is Andy Bland 2S. Please come and collect your voucher. Now we have the Class results… Last week the Rubbish Free Winner was the class that had the most people rubbish free every day!
And the with 10 people rubbish free ...
2N Prep 1/B was a very close second with 9 people rubbish free for snack and lunch every day!
Walking Bus The last Walking Bus for the term will be held on the last day Friday 22nd September. There are plenty of ‘seats’ available for walkers and all types of active transport! Departure: 8:30am from the corner of Washington Drive and Riverside Avenue. We would like to thank the Police and Neighbourhood Watch for supervising the Walking Bus.
Interschool Sport
All games of 5-6 Inter-school Sport tomorrow are being played at Mildura West PS. Games will start at 1:30pm for any parents/carers interested in watching their children play basketball, softball or volleyball.
