The valley of Guayllabamba is located in the upper basin of a river Guayllabamba and its junc-tion with river Pisque. The valley cuts through the western Andes, it’s characterized by its warm/dry climate with a diverse xerophytic vegetation and extremely fertile soil. The temperatures in the valley os-cillate between 3 and 22 ° C, with an average annual precipitation of 600 mm. Within the valley you can also find Jerusalem National Park it spands 1100 hectares. The valley of Guayllabamba is fairly populated and most of it is dominated by agricultural farms (fruit trees, corn, sugar cane). This area constitutes one of the few remnants of high altitude dry forest evironments, dominated mainly by Algarrobo (Acacia macracantha), Caesalpinia spinosa, abundant epiphytes, cactus and pencos. In the upper part of the Val-ley the vegetation is more humid and the climate is colder. There are no known specific research projects in the area, nor has it received significant conservation attention paradoxicaly because of it being an area destined to agricultural production. Sightings of presumed extinct Eriocnemis godini are recurrent in the area.

Resources & Local Services
Artists who need permanent hands - on access to complex fabrication tech-nology (Cnc’s, fabrications sofware, continous access to metalshop, wood shop) should reconsider their application to this residency * However we maintain close contact with local manufacturers and artisans with the purpose of helping you navigate any material / construction based need you might have during your time here.
Talk with our Site Managers about your projects and they will be happy to referr to you to a nearby fabricator / artisan and act as intermediary between all par-ties to ensure whatever needs to get done happens. We do not profit from this referal process so fees are managed by each fabricator / artisan.
Quito and its vecinities are a specially advantageous location for the artisanal manufacturing of goods because of its great diversity of offer when it comes to hand - labour, a lot of fabrication processes here are still done within non corporative means, this is reflected in the cost of this processes which is significanly cheaper than other southamerican cities. Every town however small has its local welders, metal workers, wood workers, carpenters etc.
We maintain connections with artisans working within the following disciplines:
Carpentry / WoodworkingHandmade Furniture making
TailorSmall Scale Ceramic Studio
Glass workMetal Shop / Welding
Blown Glass Leather work
Automotive Painting
