OverviewExplore the magnificent trails of Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks during
an active, adventurous week. Split into small groups based on your desired level of
challenge each day and hike amongst geysers, hot springs and fumaroles as you
investigate the geologic forces that shaped the region. Ride the aerial tram at
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort 4,139 vertical feet to the top of Rendezvous Mountain
for an alpine experience you will never forget.
Day 1: Wednesday, Aug. 21 Check-in, Orientat ion, Welcome Dinner
Check-in begins at 3 p.m., followed by a Program Orientation and a Welcome Dinner.
Day 2: Thursday, Aug. 22 Teton Hike, Visitor Center, Alpine Ecology Lecture
This morning, drive to Grand Teton National Park for the first hike. Today's hike encompasses a series of habitats at the base of the Teton mountain range. Choose from three hiking options, all beginning from the same trailhead. On each hike, learn about the natural forces that shape this iconic mountain range and valley - as well as the human forces that struggle to preserve it. In the afternoon, enjoy a packed field lunch in a scenic location. Upon the hike's completion, head to Craig Thomas Discovery Center in Grand Teton National Park to learn more about the natural and cultural history of the park. Dinner this evening is at the Teton Science Schools. After dinner, hear a fascinating presentation on the alpine ecosystem in Jackson, Wyoming.
Day 3: Friday, Aug. 23 Aerial Tram, Alpine Hike, Bear & Wolves lecture
Begin the morning with a hike to the summit of Rendezvous Mountain to see a fantastic view of the valley of Jackson Hole. Glacial processes, historical meanderings of the mighty Snake River and human settlement patterns can be seen from the summit. At the top of Rendezvous Mountain, break into three groups to explore the alpine environment and the unique plants and animals in the surrounding area. After a packed lunch on the trail, continue hiking one of the trails at the summit of Rendezvous Mountain. Return to the valley floor via the Aerial Tram or Bridger Gondola. In the afternoon, enjoy some free time and discover the charming Teton Village. After dinner at Teton Science Schools, enjoy a lecture that focuses on wolves and bears native to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Hear about the reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone, the delisting of both species and the behavior and biology of both species.
Day 4: Saturday, Aug. 24 Yellowstone Nat ional Park, Old Faithful, Waterfall Hike
Following an early morning departure, begin a three-day exploration of Yellowstone National Park ? America?s first national park. Head into the giant caldera and stop to see hot springs, geysers and fumaroles. Next, discover the Old Faithful Geyser Basin, home to Old Faithful as well as more than one-quarter of all of the geysers in the world! In the afternoon, choose from three hiking options and hike along one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the region. Experience a variety of thermal features on the way. After the hike, continue the drive to West Yellowstone and stop at sites of interest en route. Dinner tonight is on your own to sample the local fare.
Day 5: Sunday, Aug. 25Terrace Mountain Hike, Mammoth Terraces
Head to the northwest corner of Yellowstone Park this morning for a hike through the unusual landscape and hoodoo formations surrounding Terrace Mountain. Three hike options from the same trailhead will be offered. Enjoy a boxed lunch on the trail. This afternoon, explore Mammoth Terraces. There will be an opportunity the shops and Visitor Center at Mammoth, before heading north to Gardiner, Montana. Dinner this evening is at a local restaurant in Gardiner. Later, head out for a post-dinner drive for the chance to observe the wildlife. We may see bison, bears, elk and all kinds of birds.
Day 6: Monday, Aug. 26Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River, Visitor Center
Begin the morning with a hike through the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River, including the canyon rim. All hiking options include views of the canyon from Artist's Point. In the afternoon, enjoy a boxed lunch on the trail before stopping at the Canyon Visitor Center. At the Visitor Center, experience an in-depth look at the geology and geologic active in Yellowstone. On the return drive to Jackson, pass through the magnificent Hayden Valley to see the large mammals native to the region. Dinner this evening is at a local restaurant.
Day 7: Tuesday, Aug. 27 Nat ional Museum of Wildlife Art , Program Concludes
Head to the National Museum of Wildlife Art for a docent-led exploration of the museum. Resting upon a dramatic cliff overlooking the National Elk Refuge, the National Museum of Wildlife Art serves to enrich and inspire the relationship between humans and nature. The museum contains approximately 5,000 works of art, with exhibitions that focus on wildlife world-over. Constructed to fit seamlessly into the landscape, the building was inspired by the ruins of Slains Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The program concludes after lunch at the Palate restaurant, located in the National Museum of Wildlife Art.

Choose from multiple hiking options, ranging from 3-7 miles, moderate to difficult, on varied terrain. Elevations range from 6,000 to 10,450 feet above sea level. Elevation gains and losses for each hike range from 400 feet to 1500 feet.
