A Message from the CHAI Board President 2014-2016At Community Homes for Adults 2015 was a year filled with activity, accomplishment and new beginnings. Our Board, our residents, our non-resident clients and our staff have all worked together to advance our mission of helping adults with intellectual disabilities live full and meaningful lives. From the completion of a new five year strategic plan, to the creation of a jobs task force and the opening of our 7th group home, CHAI has been growing, moving and making a difference.
This year our Board and professional staff worked together and created a strategic plan for our next five years. As part of the plan, through the receipt of a generous bequest, the Board established an operating reserve and designated the funds from our incredible LIVING THE CHAI LIFE event to benefit the Carmen and Ludwig Michael Home Maintenance fund. This fund recognizes and celebrates the memory of our beloved founders Carmen and Ludwig Michael to maintain our group homes according to our Jewish values.
Our staff has been working diligently to translate the strategic vision of the Board into program reality. CHAI expanded its services to include a new host home program that allows clients to stay home with their families while receiving the administrative and programmatic support of our CHAI network. We established a task force for supportive employment bringing together CHAI staff and business leaders to seek out job opportunities for our CHAI clients. As a direct result of the task force, several residents and non-resident clients have been placed in new jobs and relationships with business partners are being built. In addition, we are serving more clients in all program areas including Day Habilitation and Wolens Program Services and were proud to open our 7th group home based on a new rental model designed to allow us to provide much needed additional housing for clients in a cost effective way.
While the staff and Board were busy behind the scenes, our residents and non-resident clients were involved in all areas of the Dallas community. Our Club CHAI participants enjoyed a flurry of new socialization opportunities such as bowling, dinner and movie nights and trips to Dave and Busters. In addition, a meaningful gift from NorthPark Center as part of the NorthPark 50 celebration allowed our Day Hab clients to enjoy the use of new ipad technology to learn and grow. CHAI residents and clients have been able to give back to the community through volunteerism, most notably by taking an active role in volunteering at the 2015 Maccabi games.
Thanks to each of you for your support this year. It has allowed CHAI to grow and thrive and to continue to advance our vision of providing adults with intellectual disability the highest quality of care under Jewish auspices. We look forward to 2016 as we continue to make a difference together.
Susan Bates, Ph.D.

Mission StatementCommunity Homes for Adults, Inc. (CHAI) is a non-sectarian, non-profit corporation under Jewish auspices that provides programs and services to enable adults with intellectual disabilities to live full, rich lives in a safe environment and to meaningfully participate in the community.
Since its inception in 1983, CHAI continues to fulfill its mission of supporting those in need by providing a place to live, life skills education, day habilitation, job training and support, opportunities for social inclusion, and a team of tireless advocates that makes certain every resident and client is treated with respect and compassion.
Job Coaching supplemented by Community Impact Grant from Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas
We have been fortunate over the years to expand our services by purchasing homes, as well as creating the Wolens Program Services and Day Habilitation programs because of the generosity of donors who understand the importance of CHAI as a force for good in the community.
