2
The music video for Griminal Invincible, tells the story of a young couple whose parents do not know and do not allow to be together but are eventually are caught. The video is set in two main locations, inside the girls house and outside. It is a song about love however is a different mood to Everytime and is more upbeat. Development- The music video shows a series of events throughout a night when the parents of the protagonists love interest go out and her goes over. continues in chronological order although not answering the question of why the protagonist is unhappy and arguing with her partner. Complication- The complication of the music video was why were they not allowed to be together when they seemed to love each other and seemed old enough to be permitted a relationship. It also makes the audience wonder what they are going to do about their situation. Climax-The main part of the video is when the parents come home and the protagonist must rush out and leave his lover, leaving his coat behind. Resolution- The story is resolved when the love interest of the protagonist secretly leaves and goes outside to meet him again. Lightning- In contrast to Everytime, the lightning is much brighter when shot inside the house. For the narrative to work the boy leaves his white jacket in the white room and the couple are therefore found out. He leaves it on a white chair so a low light would not have worked very well at all. Shots- Another difference between the two videos is the use of close-ups. The scenes inside the house contain mainly medium close ups and close ups, however the performance shots outside use long shots from a slightly lower angle. There are a lot more sharp cuts and crossfades in this video than in the Everytime video, this is because the music is softer and more serious, almost film like in the Britney Spears video than in this one and sharp cuts would not have flowed. The cuts in Invincible matched and worked well with the beat of the music. Mise En Scene- In comparison to Everytime, there is a lot more of a performance element to Invincible. The majority of the video is performance rather than the heavy narrative in Everytime. The protagonist even performs while the narrative is being shown. Conclusion- The video ends when the protagonists jacket is returned outside and they are picked up in a car by a friend. We are then left to assume that they live ‘happily ever after’. Again, the music video features the Vladimir Propp characters: Hero Villain Princess Helper Villain- The villains in this video are the parents on the love interest who won’t let them be together.
