ITV

ITV is a mainstream television channel which launched on the 22nd September 1955 which is funned by advertisements that ITV allow to be shown.

They show different type of programmes from dramas , reality television, documentaries and the local news for that area, art programmes

The audience for ITV is 16-34s with disposable income because of the adverts that are shown

ITV one dramas focus on older people with drama such as Downton Abbey being a period-Drama and Law and Order UK being a crime drama.

ITV 2 focus on a younger audience shows American dramas such as Vampire Diaries.

Downton Abbey

Downton Abbey is a period-Drama that is set in post-Edwardian era, set in the Yorkshire country estate of Downton Abbey.

It follows the lives of a aristocratic family called the Crawley family and their servants during the reign of King George V

During the show they come across famous historical events such as the sinking of the RMS Titanic, outbreak of World War I and the Spanish influenza pandemic.

Law and Order UK

Law and order UK is a crime drama which looks at some issues like kidnapping.

With a team of lawyers and detectives trying to solve the cases and shows how a court room is run. Georgia Taylor is a defence barrister who has turned into a Crown Prosecutor Kate Barker. Vampire diaries

Vampire diaries is a horror romance drama about 2 vampires Damon and Stefan Salvatore trying to hide their identities as two normal adolescents that fall in love with a beautiful human female called Elena whose best friend is a witch. BBC tries to cater for everyone, The BBC first broadcast on 2 November 1936

BBC audience differs from the channels. BBC one focuses on older audience mid 20s-40s showing the news, entertainment, comedies and big events.

The dramas shown on BBC one will cater for the older audience with programmes such as crime dramas like Luther and Sc-fi like Doctor who which brings a younger audience and older audience as nostalgic viewer will remember Doctor who

BBC 3 caters for a younger audience of 16-30s with original comedies, dramas and factual programmes.

Doctor Who

Doctor Who is a sci-fi drama which includes a Time lord that travels through time and space in his Tardis with a companion that always seems to get themselves in danger and trouble but every time the Doctor and companion always find away to solve the problem. Some of the villains that the Doctor and the companion come across are the Darleks, Cybermen, and The master.

In The Flesh

In The Flesh is a horror Drama that follows the life of Kieren Walker (Luke Newberry) that had previously died and come back to life as the undead and is brought back to civilisation with drugs that has been made for these circumstances.

When he arrives back to the to his home he is greeted with a unwelcome crowd who don’t agree with bringing back the dead to civilisation.

Torchwood

Torchwood is a sci-fi drama that is a more adult version of Doctor Who with Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) Gwen (Eve Myles), Owen (Burn Gorman), Toshiko (Naoko Mori) and Ianto (Gareth David-Lloyd) they encounter aliens and alien technology in Cardiff.

Torchwood is responsible for keeping the aliens and alien tech away from the public in away as possible

Channel 4 started 2 November 1982 and is recent compared to the other channels

Channel 4 try to experiment and be creative with their programmes and try to fit the licenced public service with including programmes with a educational nature

The target audience for channel 4 has changed from an older audience to a younger audience of 16-34s as they show adverts that would appeal to a younger audience as they will have a disposable income. Also showing shows like the Simpsons and Inbetweeners that attracted a younger audience

E4 has a niche audience that would appeal to teenagers with their dramas and sitcoms that teens would watch.

Channel 4 and E4 have a mixed genre of Dramas from: Misfits (sci-fi) Life Dramas (Hollyoaks) Black mirror (horror)

Misfits

Misfits is a sci-fi drama about the lives of 5 youth offenders that are caught up in a freak storm that gave them and a lot of other people powers. They are trying to work their community service off but there is always some trouble around the community centre that resulting in them using their powers to save the day.

This is England 86

This Drama is about life in 1986 following from Shane Meadows' This is England film that follow the lives of group of people living in 1986 the year Shaun (Thomas Turgoose) is leaving school.

Shaun would like to get the gang back together after the break up during the film. They reuniteWoody (Joe Gilgun), Lol (Vicky McClure), Smell (Rosamund Hanson). the past is forgotten and the gang is back in action.
