Education for Research (EfR)
• Our interest in education for research stems from:
• The roles of education:- developmental role: helping the individual to adapt to the dominant
values of a civilization- social role: generate human resources capable of social progress
• Social facts and realities:- The weight of conceptual activities increases with social and
technological progress- The definition of the contemporary society as the society of
knowledge- Declared priorities of the European community: the generation,
transmission and the efficient use of the scientific knowledge
The Society of Knowledge
Its characteristic product is knowledge
History:• archaic societies - food, clothes, shelter, tools• ancient societies - philosophy, politics, justice,
military strategies• modern societies - industrial production, culture• postmodern society - the globalization of the
access to information, knowledge
Objectives of the Education for Research (EfR)
• The development of research abilities
• The advanced study of strategies and techniques to communicate the results of research
• The efficient use of scientific knowledge in the context of ethical and sustainable social development
