Requirements for Summer Undergraduate Research Fellows and Mentors

Students must: Commit to work full-time on the project for the entire summer research period (May 17– July 25) and

not take other coursework or have other employment; Present their findings (to date) in a paper or visual format such as a poster and at the Trinity Summer

Undergraduate Research Conference to be held at the end of the summer research period on July 24-25; Turn in a final copy of the paper or poster for our Mellon archive in the digital commons of the Trinity

Coates Library. This is due by July 25; Participate in Mellon summer program activities (four seminars and ten weekly lunches); Have a graduation date of Dec. 2018 or later.

Faculty aentors must: Serve on only one research team. In consultation with the students, complete the project description and additional faculty materials.

Submit all application materials in a single PDF file in the order specified in this document. Email the file to melloninitiative@trinity.edu by 5 PM on Feb. 15, 2018.

Selection criteria: The Mellon Steering Committee will look at proposals holistically; however, certain factors will make a proposal stand out. Students must be strong and have adequate background knowledge to embark on the project. The project outcomes must be clearly defined and benefit both the student and the faculty member.

Small equipment purchases are permitted ONLY if the tool is essential to the project and not otherwise
