Male Anatomy
Penis: • Allows passage of urine and semen• Has many nerve endings to provide sensationScrotum: • Muscular sac which is shorter when cold, longer
when warm• Holds testes• Controls temperature• Provides sensation

Testes:• Produce sperm and sex hormones• Each is made of 500-1200 feet2 of tightly
coiled tubesEpididymis:• Sight of sperm maturationVas deferens:• Stores sperm• Allow passage of sperm• Big around as sewing thread

Seminal Vesicles:• Contributes sugar to semen for nourishing the
spermSemen:• Helps sperm live longer and travel better• Roughly teaspoon per ejaculationProstate Gland:• Produces most of the liquid that makes up
semen

Cowper’s Glands (aka bulbourethral glands):• Produce fluid called pre-ejaculate that
cleanses the urethra of acid (from urine) to protect the sperm

Female Anatomy
Uterus:• Houses and protects baby• Allows nutrient & waste exchange with
placenta• Nourishes embryo before the placenta growsCervix:• Bottom section of the uterus• Produces fluids to help sperm travel• Produces a mucous plug to keep germs out
during pregnancy

Vagina:• Allows passage of sperm, shed
endometrial lining, and a baby• Produces fluids to help
cleanse and lubricate itself and to help sperm travel
• A flexible, stretchy tubeHymen:• Membrane covering vaginal
opening

Ova:• EggsOvaries:• Store eggsFallopian Tubes:• Passage way from ovaries to uterusVulva:• Protect opening of urethra and vagina, like
eyelids protect eyes• Made up of labia majora, labia minora, and
clitoris
