Using The Chevron Classroom Management ChartsBirthday Chart With a write-on/wipe-away marker, place students’ names and birthdays on the Chevron Birthday Chart.

For a math activity, have students graph their classmates’ birthdays by month on a line plot or a bar graph.

For a writing activity, review how to write a personal narrative. Students will choose one of their favorite birthdays and write a personal narrative about that day.

When a student finishes her work early, she can put the months of the year in ABC order.

Display work around the Birthday Chart.

Class Rules Chart Display the Chevron Class Rules Chart where students can easily refer to it throughout the day.

At the beginning of the year, discuss the rules posted on the Chevron Class Rules Chart. As a class, decide if there are additional rules that should be added. If so, have students make posters of those additional rules and share with the class.

To review class rules, write examples of how you should follow each rule on slips of paper and place in a container. For example, Don’t write on the desk. Have a student draw a slip and read it to the class. He should then decide which rule the example applies to.

Good Listening Tips Chart Display the Chevron Good Listening Tips Chart where students can easily refer to it throughout the day.

Form five groups of students and assign a body part listed on the chart to each group. On a poster board, each group should list examples of how we use our ears, eyes, lips, hands, and feet to be a good listener. For example, We use our eyes to stay focused on the teacher.

Have students play charades to act out good listening skills.

How We Go Home Chart Display the Chevron How We Go Home Chart on Open House or Meet the Teacher night. Parents and guardians can place the name of their student in the appropriate category.

After posting the chart in the room, review the safety rules for each method of transportation. Students can work in groups to create mini-books on safe school transportation. Display the books around the How We Go Home Chart.

Welcome Chart With a write-on/wipe-away marker, place the teacher’s name, grade and room number on the Chevron Welcome Chart.

Post the Chevron Welcome Chart on or near the door to the classroom.
