What Representation theories can you link to the horror genre?

Representation theories can be linked to the horror genre, using typical representation conventions such as the representation of gender in horror film, because women can be seen as an easy target or a damsel in distress but in contrast some times in the horror genre these conventions may be challenged throughout the story line as the woman may become the powerful hero by the end of the film.

Laura Mulveys male gaze theory can also be seen as a convention of representation as the females are portrayed through the a males eyes, in a horror film such as in ‘Final Destination 3’ the female protagonist is seen as venerable and an easy target this is a good example of the male gaze theory.
