David Higgs Pastor

Don Edmiston Minister of Education-Administration

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK:

The summer events and programs are keeping us busy at First Baptist Church. Many of the

summer programs, mission trips, and events have been completed. But there are several still

yet to take place. Mark your calendar for the annual Summer-In-Review service on Sunday

evening, August 16. At this annual service, you will have the opportunity to hear reports from

each summer mission trip, event, and program. It is always a great way to close out the

summer! As

As we look past the summer months, the fall season is certainly going to be an exciting time at

First Baptist Church. We will kick-off this season of the year with our annual Sunday School

tailgate breakfast. The tailgate breakfast will be a part of Game Day 2015 which will be held on

Sunday, August 30. Additionally, this fall, we will celebrate the 165th birthday for this church on

September 27! No doubt, that will be a great day here at First Baptist Church. Also, the Lord

willing, I believe we will be breaking ground for our new Children’s Building sometime this

fall.

Summer is a difficult time for attendance in most churches. Let’s all make a strong effort to be

in church this coming Lord’s Day as we honor Him on His Day! I know the Lord is pleased with

His people when they honor His Day.

lll

Summer is now past the half way mark and we are now looking to the fall. At the end of August we have our annual Sunday School tailgate breakfast. This has become our highest attended Sunday School of the year. I want to encourage you to place the date of August 30 on your cal-endar and make plans to be present for that great Sunday morning. Begin praying about who you could invite and encourage to attend with you.

I am looking forward to this fall’s DiscipleLife classes. Wednesday nights have become a great time for discipleship. However, if you have not been involved in the DiscipleLife classes, this fall would be a wonderful time for you to try one out. We will be sharing the class information soon.

This summer, we are enjoying SummerFest each Wednesday night. We are studying together different topics found in some of the old classic television shows. We are also preparing gifts each week to send to a variety of organizations in Henderson who serve the community. Beginning in September, we will be back on our regular schedules with children, youth and adult studies and activities. We will also resume our regular schedule on the Wednesday night fellowship meal. However, we need to make one change this fall. Due to the continued increase in food costs, our meal prices will increase by one dollar, beginning September 2.

This summer has been filled with activities for

children! Hundreds of children throughout our

community have been involved in our various

activities, and that means they have heard

the gospel of Jesus Christ! Some have come

to our building, and others have gone to

camps. The thing that ties all of these

activities together is Jesus – the reason we do everything we do.

None of these activities would have been possible without the generosity

and faithfulness of the many volunteers! VBS, day camp, children’s camp,

and the preteen mission trip all require many adults to participate to make

them happen, and you all stepped up in an amazing way. Thank you for

telling Bible stories, handing out snacks, leading crafts, playing games,

going on the zipline, swimming, and singing silly songs with all of these

beautiful children. Whatever your role, it was important!

Thank you for loving children the way you do and sharing the love of Jesus

with them. Working with children can sometimes be challenging, and I

greatly appreciate everyone who poured into the life of a child this summer.

You made an impact!

u! Dear Church Family,

Thank you so much for the wonderful senior breakfast and Bible. The recognition service will always be a special memory for me. I appreciate the church’s support throughout the years. Love, Jordan Toon Thank you for the family breakfast you provided on Senior Sunday. It was very special. The slide show and book are memories I will always treasure. I also want to thank you for the Bible you presented me with during our church service. This church has been one of the most important parts of my life and I truly appreciate all the love and support you’ve given me. My life has been blessed through this church family. God bless you all! Love, Baylee Bradley Volunteer Christian Builders, To all you dear ones, I don’t even know what words to use to express our gratitude and appreciation for what you have done for a little family in the Church Hill Community. I called the office at First Baptist Church with a plea for help. I talked to the sweetest ladies who advised me and forwarded my request to the builder’s group. Shannon Coats came first and surveyed the situation and gave his report to David Harris and his helper. The desperate need was for a ramp to be built for a father and husband who has been confined to a wheelchair. His daughter and his wife are physically unable to lift the wheelchair up the steps into their home. Within a few days, David Harris and his assistant built the most perfect ramp ever made for a family they didn’t even know. Talk about God’s grace and love in action! We are eternally grateful for all you have done to help this sweet family. I have always said if you get a bunch of good Baptists together you can accomplish anything. So true! Thank you again for so quickly responding to our need. We are so humble and grateful. Please use the enclosed donation to further your cause to help others as you have helped us. Nancy Strong, Jo Sanders, & Leonard and Mary Floyd Dear Church Family, Thank you so much for the goodies for the nurses at the hospital. They were so surprised and have really enjoyed them. Thank you for all the things the church does. Jan Lee ETMC Henderson Dear Fellow Christians, Thank you so much for the honor of working with you at Pidcoke, TX. What a joy it was working and fellowshipping with your adult and youth workers. We all thank you for the special t-shirts, making the arrangements for our rooms at Best Western, and for the snacks and drinks. May God continue to bless you as you serve Him. With our love and appreciation, The Building Team of Early First Baptist Church Loretta Carter Vonda Williamson Dennis Stephenson Wayne and Margie McClure Herb and Ima Martin Joe, Hillary, Josh, and Jared Baucom Travis Eoff Ryleigh Dalleh Thank you for the goodies, but more than that, thank you for thinking of us. The gift was such a nice surprise. ETMC Henderson E.R. FBC Henderson, Thank you for allowing us to come back another year to teach a Sports Crusaders camp. We enjoyed our time here; the children were great. Thank you for everything you provided for us to help make camp run smoothly,. It’s been great to serve in Henderson and we hope to come back and serve with you again. Your Sports Crusaders, Jennifer Allison, Mickey Moore & Jarrod Bowman FBC, Thank you for allowing me to stay in the house again this summer. It was really clean and cool! Thanks also for the snacks and water. Best Wishes! Jarrod Bowman Dear Pastor Higgs, On behalf of Texas Baptist Men-Disaster Relief, I want to thank you for the kind generosity you showed our relief workers during the tornado relief effort in your area.
