Report writing for professionals
How to write an accessible, process-oriented business report&help your reader progress.
It's a business report that follows your project or research journey step-by-step
It takes your reader to the apex of the journey: the conclusion
The process-oriented business report
That's it.
Looks simple and yet adventurous, doesn't it?
Well....
it can be a bit of a drag sometimes.
Also for report readers, since
many report writers just seem to flaunt their knowledge
these hyperfocused writers simply forget about their readers
In fact, hundreds of readers get lost every year in business reports
As a consequence, their projects get hopelessly behind on schedule*
* because of the search and rescue operations (which are often kept silent).
Which has an impact
By applying them to your business reports you're really going to help your readers
They might even going to like the journey
(She's just read that her new product concept has market potential...)
So, here are some simple rules
#1 Make clear where you're heading and why
Prefer surprise and suspense? Try writing a thriller
You know the saying:
If you don't know where you're going...
your reader will end up
reading something else
#2 Take logical steps
If hopscotch's your favorite, get up from behind your desk and look for a playground.
A business report is one long reasoning, really
That reasoning has to be sound and solid
.
#3 Get to the key point you set out for
Only the one who set sail for India
but arrived in the 'alternative India',
got away with it.
But that was centuries ago.And you're not Columbus.
#4 Enhance coherence on every text level
It makes the traverse a cakewalk for your reader.
You wouldn't cross if the elements weren't connected,
would you?
(No, youwouldn't)
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
#5 Make your report scannable
Your reader wants to have an overview.
And he might just wanna pick the parts that interest him most.*
* No, report readers don't read the whole lot
Yes, life's tough
So, Make clear where you're heading and why
Take logical steps; structure as one reasoning
Get to the key point you set out for.
Enhance coherence on each text level.
Make your report scannable
