Dear Friends of the Foundation:
As we reflect on 2008, we remain galvanized by the gravity of the global economic crisis. And, at the same time, we are buoyed by the bountiful generosity of our do-nors, event sponsors, and friends. We know that both forces will continue to be in play for several years. More than ever before, our care for and commitment to our neighbors and community will be called upon as basic survival needs escalate.
Thank you to the many organizations who are recipients of The Community Foun-dation’s grants. Your daily hard work improves the lives of many local families and individuals. Thank you also to our 40 scholarship recipients who are working to not only improve their lives, but the lives of their families and the larger community.
Just as others are excelling in their contribution to community, your Foundation is striving toward excellence. Near the end of 2008, your Foundation completed the long process to be officially certified by The Council on Foundations. Certification confirms compliance with philanthropy’s most rigorous standards for legal, ethical and effective grantmaking and operating practices, including transparency and financial responsibility. This is a very important benchmark as we celebrate our 20th Anniversary during 2009.
In closing, as we all note the severity of the economic downturn, we recognize our responsibility to help others. We cannot adequately express our appreciation to our donors, sponsors and friends for your indomitable charitable spirit. The world, and especially our community, is a better place because of you.
On behalf of your community’s foundation,

The Community Foundation of South Puget Sound’s mission is to strengthen the communities we serve by connecting donors with causes that matter. We connect the needs of Thurston, Mason and Lewis County with donors who wnat to make a difference now and for generations to come.
The Foundation manages charitable gifts and endowments. Generous individuals, businesses and nonprofit agencies have entrusted us with their funds. The proceeds from their funds generate grants and scholarships today, while preserving resources for tomorrow’s community needs.
