The IFLA Internet Manifesto

Peru was chosen by IFLA/FAIFE to train librarians from 12 regions of the country in order to promote the IFLA/UNESCO Internet Manifesto Guidelines. This workshop was carried out thanks to the funding of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency

(SIDA).

The Santiago de Surco Municipality Library, the FAIFE Committee and the Latin America and the Caribbean Section of IFLA, organized the Train the Trainers Workshop on the IFLA/UNESCO Internet Manifesto Guidelines. The workshop was held on March 22nd and

23rd at the Estación del Conocimiento.

The workshop started with the welcome words of Doris Samanez, Officer of the Santiago de Surco Municipality Library. The first part of it was given at the reading room of the Estación del Conocimiento III.

Sunday March 22nd Each participant received a folder with the following:

- IFLA/UNESCO Internet Manifesto Guidelines - The Internet Manifesto Training Manual for librarians. - A list of Latin American websites about Internet access and use, compiled by Felipe Martinez Arellano.

The second part of the workshop was held at the electronic resources wagon of the Estación del Conocimiento III, each participant had a computer and

followed the power point presentations.

Jorge Bossio presented his conference. It was called “Internet and Telecommunications in Peru: 15 years of reform”. He talked about Internet access and other information technologies in Peru and the Digital Agenda for Information Society development in Peru . He

also mentioned the use of the IFLA Guidelines Internet in Peru.

During the coffee breaks and lunch offered at the Estación del Conocimiento III, all participants talked and interchanged library experiences regarding the topics mentioned during the expositions,

creating a cordiality environment.

On Monday the group continued working with the The IFLA Internet Manifesto with interactive exercises applying the Guidelines in specific situations of Internet

access services offered in libraries..

Finally, topics like privacy, confidentiality and security in the Internet access services were discussed. The role of

librarians and the writing policies were also mentioned.
