Monitoring blood pressure and forecasting the problems is critical for your well being and can even save lives of your loved ones.

Unfortunately, you cannot rely on automatic blood pressure monitors.

Your home blood pressure monitor may be way off.

Up to 15% of home machines give the wrong readings, study finds.

Page 11: Report on the Accutension

If you or your loved one are using automatic blood pressure monitors (BPM), you may be misled by their readings.

Most BPMs employ their own algorithms and use cuff pressure oscillation for the estimates.

As a result, a user gets different readings, depending on the monitor they are using.

Why is it a problem?

Page 13: Report on the Accutension

Underestimating a blood pressure by only 5 mmHg would mislabel people and lead to inappropriate treatments or a lack of them, putting these people in danger of fatal strokes and myocardial infarctions.

Conversely, overestimating blood pressure by 5 mmHg would be exposing them to adverse drug and psychological effects, and unnecessary expenses.

The two different measurement mechanisms behind can induce even more than 20 mmHg difference!

Accutension : Smartphone Enabled Blood Pressure

Kit

Page 16: Report on the Accutension

Accutension is the first blood pressure kit for portable use that provides the results as accurate as doctor’s and nurse's measurements, employing your smartphone and an app.

Doctors and nurses directly determine the blood pressure by listening (auscultating) to the sounds of blood flow.

So does Accutension: it provides readings based directly on the sounds, not algorithms, resulting in accurate, consistent, and reliable blood pressure measurement.

How does it work?

Page 22: Report on the Accutension

Accutension can work with your existing tools or on its own:You can plug it into a traditional sphygmomanometer or an Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor to verify their readings or as an independent blood pressure kit with its own cuff.

The sounds from the tube of the stethoscope are fed into the phone through a microphone plugged into the jack.

Plug the Stetho into your phone and record the video (shoot the display of the BPM) during the blood pressure measurement. The sounds of blood flow (Korotkoff sounds) will be recorded.

Page 26: Report on the Accutension
Page 27: Report on the Accutension

Then, replay the video and listen to the sounds. When you hear the first Korotkoff sound, the number on the screen is the systolic pressure; when the Korotkoff sounds disappear, the number on the screen is the diastolic pressure. Compare these results with those on your BPM screen.

Plug the pressure sensor module into any upper arm BPM with a tube connecting the cuff and the machine. There is a connector between the tube and the machine body which is easy to take off in order to add the Accutension module.

The sensor does not affect the normal BMP operation, so you don’t need to unplug it.

If you add a cuff and a hand pump to Accutension Classic, it becomes a standalone blood pressure kit.

The cuff will be self deflated at a speed 2-4 mmHg/s, required by accurate blood pressure measurement guideline.
