The eventThe Amiga is a family of personal computers sold by Commodore in the 1980s and 1990s. The first model, the A1000, was launched in 1985 and became popular for its graphical, audio and multi-tasking abilities. The best selling model, the Amiga 500, was introduced in 1987 and became one of the leading home computers of the late 1980s and early 1990s with approximately six million sold.Over the years, the Amiga has gathered a huge group of users, “fans” who, even today, use the computer for daily work, games, hobby, internet and anything else that modern-daycomputers are used for.To celebrate the Amiga’s 30th anniversary, an event wasorganized in Amsterdam on june 27th 2015, inviting allAmiga entousiasts to come to Amsterdam and celebrate theanniversary in the company of some of the original Amigasoft- and hardware designers.CYMTV had agreed to supply a LIVE stream from the event,to provide all footage to the majority of Amiga users, whocould not make it to Amsterdam.

Venue and setupThe event was organized at The Lighthouse in Amsterdam,near the ‘IJ’ area.

At the venue, CYMTV set up a standard quad-coreWindows 8 laptop running the Wirecast Pro software.Two 720P HD webcams were connected, one was aimedat the center stage and another was aimed at the crowdto give the viewers an atmospheric impression of the event.The LIVE signal was both captured (and recorded in 720P) as well as broadcasted, through a dedicated 10 mbit/s WiFi signal.The signal was streamed to CYMTV’s Rotterdam datacenterwhere it was ingested by a Wowza server. The Wowza serverstreams to the CYMTV “Active Cloud Streaming” serversfrom where the stream is distributed to a webpage (forbrowser playback) and an Android app which was madeavailable to all interested viewers.

Stream bitrateThe broadcasted stream had an average bitrate of 686 kbit/s, with a maximum of 1127 kbit/s reached at 10:56 AM.

Concurrent viewersThe average amount of concurrent viewers was 161, with a peak of 269 viewers at 1:38 PM.

Bandwidth savingThe average bandwidth saved by CYMTV’s “Active Cloud Streaming” technology was 79,7%.

ConclusionCYMTV successfully streamed to an average of 161 concurrent web-browser and Android App viewers using the “Active Cloud Streaming” technology. The feed was established with a standard off-the-shelf laptop and software, using a normal 10 mbit/s WiFi connection.More event reports in different scales will follow, but this first event coverage already shows the true potential of the technology.
