FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS at GTU Report on FDP conducted by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for "Advance Java Programming" Date: 19 - 20 December, 2014 : Venue: BISAG, Gandhinagar As GTU is going to introduce revised syllabus in semester 06 of Diploma Engineering courses , In order to help faculties better understand new topics from industry perspective, GTU has organized two day workshop with the support from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for 'Advance Java Programming'. Based on a tripartite discussion with Mr. Akshai Aggarwal, Vice Chancellor GTU, Mr. Rohit Shah, CSR committee chairperson GCCI, Mr. Raj K Jha, ILP Head and Mr. Kishan Gopal, CSR TCS Gandhinagar, GTU shown need to organize FDP for diploma faculties on 19 th and 20 th Dec at GTU campus Faculties were looking forward to such training and chances of using any methodology and strategy suggested by TCS which can have enormous chances of reaching directly to students in a very short period of time To understand on ground requirement Sunny Arora and Suyog Mittal (both ILP faculties) and Kishan (CSR) interacted with prospective participants Mr. Riyaz Shekh, Ms. Rekha Shah, and Mr. Manisha Mehta. Prof. Kshama Shah, OSD at GTU shared delta change in curriculum : Keeping all inputs in mind ILP faculties under guidance of Deepak Jena prepared the content and Sunny Joshi, Suyog Mittal, Aryan Singh and Manpreet Sidhu contributed extensively in content development For the timely start of the FDP, Mr. Deepak Jena and Mr. Kishan visited BISAG campus a day prior to FDP to ensure software installation for hands on practice Following Software were used for the FDP JDK 6 Eclipse Galileo Apache Tomcat 6 Oracle Express Server Oracle Client

FDP was inaugurated by Mr J C Lilani, I/C Registrtar GTU in presence of Mr. Rohit Shah chairperson for CSR committee of GCCI on 19th Dec. Both expressed their gratitude to TCS for conducting FDP. 19 participants from 15 diploma engineering colleges from across Gujarat participated in the training Mr. Sunny Joshi and Mr. Murali Kashipati conducted first day sessions on JAVA database, client server, Applets and AWT. Deepak Jena and Suyog Mittal conducted day two session on Servelets , JSP and industry expectation & guidance to students The workshop demonstrated and taught the faculties to use excellent teaching methods to enable thestudents to get detailed knowledge in Advance Java Programming. Also well-defined instructional techniquesvalidated by careful, documented, repeatable research that make teaching more effective were taught. These techniques can be introduced slowly and methodically, without compromising coverage of the syllabus.

The workshop also included discussions regarding active learning, various forms of active learning methods and other related techniques to help students in achieving the objectives and outcomes mentioned in the subject.

• 95% participants benefited and learnt from experts communication

skills

• 82% participants had indirect learning from experts about handling

queries

• 68% participants were in full alignment with learning about

encouragement of class participation, remaining 32 % were in

alignment of the same

• 38% participants who were in alignment of industry exposure of

experts, mentioned that the time duration for the FDP shall be

extended so that TCS faculties can share more examples

100 % participants were in strong favor about usefulness of FDP

79 % participants were strongly in favor about meeting FDP objective, 21%

were moderately in favor

Way Ahead :TCS faculties can visit some of the diploma institutes to provide

on ground engagement opportunities to participants. GTU can organize the

visit for TCSers. TCS faculties would like to volunteer for the same. Also Since

time duration was a felt constraint, participants couldn’t have expected

hands on experience. We may consider for one day follow up session for same

faculties

To reach out to Govt Diploma Engg colleges GTU would like to collaborate

with DTE and request TCS to conduct FDPs. Given more than 700 faculties to

be trained, on request of GTU, TCS and GTU can have a formal MoU to

enhance Advanced Java skills of diploma engg faculties
