REPORT ON EXTENSION ACTIVITIES
Don Bosco College emphasizes on all-round development of the students by
organising various extension activities to inculcate a sense of social
responsibility and humanitarian values amongst the students by connecting
them to the neighbouring community. Every year, the college organises
following activities with the help of various departments. Committees like NSS
and the student council also takes lot of initiatives to sensitize them towards the
needs of the marginalized thereby making them aware of their responsibilities
towards the society at large.
1. Sexual Harassment Counselling and Self Defence Workshop
This workshop is organised every year by
the college and HS Department to create an
awareness of the laws against sexual
harassment and importance of
professionalism at the workplace. Practical
Sessions to teach basic self-
defence techniques are taught to the girl students.
2. FLOOD REPORTS – Waterlogging
issues
DBC took an Initiative to help the
Neighbouring society by addressing
the issue of Waterlogging to the
BMC. TYBMM journalism students
also Covered the Incident and wrote
articles which got published in the
newspaper.
3. International Yoga Day
To help follow a healthy way of life,
by enhancing one’s physical, mental
and spiritual abilities. Yoga sessions
are organized by DBCL for all the
students and faculties on every
21st June.
Pre yoga week is celebrated by
organising yoga workshops to train
the students who volunteer on the
yoga day.
4. Police Maitri
The NSS unit of Don
Bosco College organises
this event to brief the
students to be volunteers
and to help the police
perform well by being
aware about the illegal or
miss-happenings in and
around the college
campus, their homes as
well as their city.
5. Swachabharat Abhiyan-
Cleanliness Drive
The College Distributed cloth
bags to the adopted area and the
neighbouring area and the
students instructed to ban the
usage of plastic bags as well as
products that contain plastic in
any form.
A lecture is delivered to the
students explaining about the necessity to save energy for a brighter
future and also the proper management of waste so that we all live in a
pollution free and safe environment.
6. Tree Plantation
In association with RAWW & the
Murbad Range of the State Forest
Department the students participated
in the initiative with enthusiasm and
planted different saplings. The core
agenda was “to plant 2 Crore
saplings in order to regain and
restore the lost green cover of the
earth to fight back global warming
and climate change and to make the
Earth a better place to live in for the
future years to come”. The activity
led the students to a sense of pride &
happiness.
7. Orientation programmes for the first years
Orientation program for newly
admitted first years along with their
parents in the Santino Mondini hall.
During the orientation the students
were briefed about various
academic aspects and were given a
little boost of encouragement to
kick start their academic year.
8. Graduation ceremony and Fresher’s
Fresher's and Graduation party is
organised by all the departments for the
new Students as well as graduating
batch.
9. International shiksha
A student study fair is organized by the
Study Network association. The
information about international
education, its requirements, career
options and job opportunities are spread
among the students. There are
representatives from over 10 foreign institutions from countries like USA,
Canada, Spain, Germany, Holland, etc.
10. Theme lunches
This event helps students understand the
elements and application are as follows – in
depth learning and development of various
skills such as Sales & Marketing, Creativity
and Decor, Food Menu compilation, Styling,
Costing & Presentation, Food & Beverage
Service and Management skills, as well as
Total Financial analysis of the event.
11. National day
Every year the college celebrates Independence
Day to impart patriotic feelings amongst the
Students.
12. Traditional day
and Onam Day
Every year the
college dedicates a
day to celebrate the
culture and
tradition and
explore the
diversity of the
nation.
13. DBCL’s Annual Leadership Camp
(for Salesian Youth
Movements Members)
Don Bosco Center for
Learning organises the
camp for the student
representatives from
various departments of
DBCL Kurla campus to
reiterate the essence of
effective leadership and
kindle a sense of bonhomie among the students.
Through apt and inimitable
relevance to student scenarios
regarding decision making and
event management, a series of
personality building sessions
were conducted.
14. PHOTOGRAPHY STUDY TOUR
BMM Department organises
a photography study tour to
sharpen the photography
skills of the Students.
15. EXPRESSION - 2017-18 – “Consent Is your Right”
The event organized
by the WDC(
Women’s
Development Cell) in
Don Bosco College
had various sessions
where The
participants could
voice their opinion
through verbal and
non-verbal
communication such
as poetry, poster competition & Skits on topics concerning Gender.
Aligning to the theme of the event “Whats your Yes & Whats your No?”
– Domestic Violence Act was discussed along with the issue of A
Woman’s right to “Consent” - in different situation , to different people
and at different times.
16. Gurupurnima
DBC management, teachers,
staff & students celebrated
the auspicious day of Guru
Purnima with great reverence
and devotion.
17. Blood Donation Drive
NSS Unit with Samarpan bank, KEM bank and Harkishandas
The NSS unit and SYM group of DBCL campus
and Mumbai province had organised Blood
Donation Camp for the students and staff
members of DBCL campus and for the volunteers
outside the Don Bosco premises, who were keen
on donating blood.
19. Diwali Mela “spreading happiness and love”
DBC Yearly Event (Campus)
Don Bosco Centre for Learning organizes the event for special kids (infected with
AIDS) and their parents. An old tradition at DBCL, the event’s main aim is to
spread joy amongst the kids and their families, by spending quality time with
them.
20. Christmas and New Year celebration for Special Children
DBC Yearly Event (Borivali)
NSS unit of Don Bosco college,Don Bosco Institute of Technology and SYM
ministry in association with Sanmitra Trust organised The Christmas / New
Year celebration for more than 240 under privileged children and their families.
The children enjoyed the various entertaining games & exciting gifts arranged
by the students. The environment filled with excitement as children indulged in
music and dance while Santa Clause surprised everyone with gifts.
21. Little Wonders - celebration with Special Children
ADAPT (NGO)
Little Wonders, a programme organized by the Department of Mass Media in
association with Don Bosco Media Access Centre, were honoured to have the
special children of Adapt visit our institute.
Little Wonders is one of those events which represents the vision of Don Bosco,
to love and care for everyone, especially the underprivileged. Our Christmas
celebrations were complete as we could provide the children something which
they could cherish forever.
22. HEALTH AWARENESS POSTER COMPETITION
DBC organises ‘Health Awareness Poster Competition’ for all the students to
inculcate knowledge and spread awareness about healthy life style as health is a
state of complete harmony of mind, body and spirit. If you have health, you can
have all the happiness in the world. In this modern world, we have no time to
think and pave a path to healthy living
