    As a part of Coordination & Change Enabling Project (G5) objective and to build-up a coordination among stakeholders and related links such as researchers,entrepreneurs, development and extension agents, and service sectors from GO-NGO andPrivate agencies, a workshop was held on February 14, 2012 at the conference hall ofBDS, Barisal. BRAC and WorldFish Center jointly organized the workshop.

    The outcome of the workshop was targeted on awareness building to the localstakeholders on the Ganges BDC, Threats and opportunities of Ganges coast in respect ofexternal/internal drivers of water resources to be known to concerned officials,Beneficiary-understanding on the opportunities of agriculture and aquaculture under thechanged situation and to increased out scaling opportunities of research products ofGanges BDC.

    A number of 59 Participants from 05 districts of Barisal Division (Barisal, Jhalokathi,Pirojpur, Patuakhali, Borguna) were present.

    A number of special guests like Dr. Achim Dobermann, DDG(Research), IRRI, COP,

    CSISA-BD Dr. Zainul Abedin, IRRI Representative, Bangladesh, were also present at theinaugural session and delivered their valuable speech.

    After the registration of the participants, at 9.00am the inaugural session started through

    recitation from the Holy Quaran. At 9.15 am After welcome address, Dr. Sirajul Islam,

    Program Head, from BRAC Ag & Food Security Program delivered the Opening Speech and

    discussed the objective of the workshop.

    The objectives of the workshop are identified from the speech of Dr Sirajul Islam are as

    follows:

    - To acquaint/accustom the representatives of local stakeholders about the GangesBDC and CPWF as a whole

    - To explain the aims, objectives and outcomes of Ganges BDC- To explain the research programs and related activities of different G-projects- To engage the concerned staff to BRAC and G5 with a view to out scaling the

    research findings of Ganges BDC

    After the opening speech by Dr. Sirajul Islam, honorable guests Dr. Achim Dobermann,

    DDG(Research), IRRI, Christian Portal, COP, CSISA-BD, Dr. Zainul Abedin, IRRI

    Representative, Bangladesh, Josan T Beebout, Consultant, IRRI delivered their valuable

    speech.

    After the inaugural session the technical session started at10.30 am after a short health

    break.

    A number of 06 technical papers were presented at the session which are:

    1. Resource profiles, extrapolation domains, and land-use patterns (G1)- by Dr Nonoranjan Mondal, Collaborative Research Scientist, IRRI.

    2. Productive, profitable and resilient agriculture and aquaculture systems (G2)-by Dr Nonoranjan Mondal, Collaborative Research Scientist, IRRI.

    3. Role of BRAC with Ganges Basin Development Challenge-Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam, Program Head, AFSP, BRAC

    4. Water governance and community based Management- Camelia Dewan, Research Manager, International Water Management Institute

    5. Challenge Program on Water and Food of CGIAR Dr. Nowsher Sarder, Basin Leader(G5), WorldFish Center.

    6. Ganges Basin Development Challenge: Role of change and coordination project- Dr. Nowsher Sarder, Basin Leader(G5), WorldFish Center.

    After the end of the presentation session an open discussion was held and the

    participants expressed and drawn-up their valuable comments.

    The participants highlighted mainly on Improvement of Food security, Strengthen

    livelihood resilience in coastal areas through improved water governance and

    management, more productive and diversified farming system etc.

    Brain storming sessionon Net Mapping (for scale-up) directed by Dr Hamid Mia and Mr

    Emdad Hossain, M&E Specialist, WorldFish Center, Bangladesh.

    All the participants are divided into four separate groups. The findings of the Net Mapping

    session were presented by the group leaders. The group work papers have been

    preserved by the organizers for the finalize the future plan

    After the group work session the closing session started and Dr. A.K.M Aminul Haque,

    Deputy Director DoF, Barisal Division chaired this session.

    At 4.30 pm workshop was ended and finally the Basin Leader(G5), WorldFish Center, Dr.

    Nowsher Sarder, announced the closing of this day long workshop with a vote of thanks.
