RECRUITMENT is the process of searching
the candidates for employment &
stimulating them to apply for jobs in the
organization WHEREAS;
SELECTION involves the series of steps by
which the candidates are screened for
choosing the most suitable persons for
vacant posts.
1. Recruitment is a positive process i.e.
encouraging more & more employees to
apply WHEREAS selection is a negative
process as it involves rejection of the
unsuitable candidates.
2. Recruitment is concerned with
tapping the sources of human resources
WHEREAS Selection is concerned with
selecting the most suitable candidates.
3.There is no contract of Recruitment
established in recruitment WHEREAS
Selection results in a contract of service
between the employer & the selected
employee.

Functional structure – is set up so that
each portion of the organization is
grouped according to its purpose.
Divisional structure – is typically used in
larger companies that operate in a wide
geographic area or that have separate
smaller organizations w/in the umbrella
group to cover diff. types of products or
market areas.
Matrix – is a hybrid of divisional & functional structure, typically used in large multinational companies.
Strategy &StructureStructure & Strategy are married to each
other. When a company makes a major changes, it must carefully think out every
aspect of the structure required to support the strategy.

Workflow analysis entails reviewing the processes in a business w/ a view toward identifying inefficiencies & recommending improvements.
Two Primary factors lead firms to undertake a workflow analysis.
• Ongoing technological advances can offer more efficient & less costly ways of doing business, firms often choose to review processes w/ a view toward automating them or incorporating the latest technology.
Second, it is typical for so called legacy
processes to be firmly entrenched in a
firm.

Human Rights Legislation is put in place to
protect people from discrimination.
Direct Discrimination – When a person is treated less well, in comparison w/ someone else, because of his/her racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation.
Indirect Discrimination – When an apparently neutral specification, criteria or practice would disadvantage people on the grounds of racial or ethnic-origin, religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation unless the practice can be objectively justified by a legitimate aim.
