If properly configured, ECMs do a fabulous job of managing digital assets, document scans, office documents, and archives in a secure repository.. Implementing an ECM provides a valuable platform for information governance, search, taxonomy and metadata development, collaboration and workflow. Documents stored in this enterprise content management system are made available through a presentation layer that users can access easily. Versioned documents are at the center of this collaborative ecosystem, where the versions represent an evolution of documents toward a single output.

Enterprise Report Management solutions focus on large, computer generated generational reports. Created by computers, but for human users. In these systems, ERPs, HRMs, CRMs, ad-hoc reporting systems and users generate reports that are generational. A sales report would be a good example of a generational report. It measures a snapshot in time, and is static.the numbers dont change for that generation.
