PROFILE OF TRADE VISITORS
INTERNATIONAL PLATFORM FOR SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS TRANSACTIONS
THE PERFECT FRAMEWORKThe PressPreview and the evening opening ceremony on the eve before the fair, were held solely for exhibitors and journalists and were very well received. The highlights of the evening event included the opening show from Light Balance – fi nalists of America’s Got Talent – as well as the awarding of the ToyAward. This year’s ToyNight “On Ice” with a spectacular show from Holiday On Ice and the daring wheel of death from the Flic Flac circus was also a great success. Further highlights of the Spielwarenmesse® included the fi reworks with mulled wine and the honouring ceremony of long-standing exhibitors.

SPECIAL AREAS
TECH2PLAYThe playful way to experience technology
The electronic toys segment is developing rapidly. Anyone who wanted to find out more about new developments in this exciting sector at the 69th Spielwarenmesse® was in precisely the right place at the Tech2Play activity area in Hall 4A. On a floor space of around 400 m², the space summed up the highlights from the fascinating world of Tech Toys. Retail specialists and buyers were able to get a valuable overview in the activity area; they could also try out the products directly on site and receive the latest ideas for their range of toys.
BABY AND INFANT ARTICLESEffectively displayed products for the little ones
The extensive range of the Baby and Infant Articles product group was presented in a variety of ways in its special display area which gave retailers and buyers a great deal of inspi-ration for future attractive additional assortments. In the light-flooded passage between Halls 2 and 3, visitors were given a quick overview of the products and exhibitors from the following areas:
• Baby Toys
• Baby Textile
• Travel Systems
• Care & Food
• Home & Safety
• License Articles
TOYS MEET BOOKSThe new special area for booksellers and non-book suppliers
Fresh inspiration for the attractive assortment of non-book articles was provided on the roughly 160 m² of the new special area Toys meet Books at the Entrance Mitte. 14 exhibitors showcased their products and gave interested trade visitors ideas for expanding their product range. Another advantage for buyers was the guided tours to participating exhibitors in order to get a quick overview of relevant non-book suppliers present at the Spielwarenmesse®. Expert talks given by trade profes-sionals on the Friday of the fair and a guide with all the exhibitors offering products from the non-book area rounded off the extensive range on offer.
TOYAWARDThe Novelty Award of the Spielwarenmesse®
For the 15th time now, particularly innovative product ideas in four age-group-specific categories have been awarded the coveted ToyAward. This year, the expert jury selected the best products from a record 643 entries that met the criteria of play fun, originality, safety, workmanship and quality as well as the potential for being successful in the retail trade.

THE TRENDS 2018
Explore Nature
Children spend a great deal of time in front of their com-puter, smartphone or TV screens and less and less time in nature. “Explore Nature” can bring children closer to nature and encourage them to explore and investigate the environment in depth.
Just for Fun
Play should, first and foremost, be fun. The learning effects that games offer anyway don’t always have to be in the foreground. Products that are fun to play with and don’t require complicated rules are very popular with this trend.
Team Spirit
Cooperation and social interaction are skills that play an increasingly important role in our society, no matter how old one is. Children should learn these soft skills in a playful way. It’s not the lone wolf who will win in the end. These games can only be won collectively!
HOLLYWOOD AT THE SPIELWARENMESSE®
Trade visitors to the Spielwarenmesse® 2018 received a broad overview of international licensing trends and innovations. The labelling of licensed items in the TrendGuide helped visitors navigate their way through- out the exhibitors’ product portfolio.
In addition, with the LicensePreview, the Spielwarenmesse®
offered all members of the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) the chance to present the latest licenses in an exclusive atmosphere for the very first time. Among those present were major studios such as CPLG (Paramount Pictures), Fox Consumer Products and NBC Universal.
TOY BUSINESS FORUMKnow-How for the toy business
Trends, novelties, digitisation or multi-channel – these are the topics that concern the toy industry. As a knowledge platform of the Spielwarenmesse® the Toy Business Forum addresses these aspects. On all the days of the fair, inter-national speakers provided topic-specific answers. The trade visitors were able to take part in the compact lectures, which had different topics every day, free of charge. On Saturday, the Toy Business Forum dedicated itself to the two top interests of the sector: purchasing and sales.

INNOVATION MADE IN GERMANYThe Spielwarenmesse®, in cooperation with the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), made it possible for 25 German start-ups: to be represented at a leading international trade fair, to establish new business contacts and to present creative product ideas to the most important purchasers in the industry. The 240 m² large area was used by young entrepreneurs as a springboard into the international toy industry and as an opportunity to present original and innovative product ideas.
NEW EXHIBITOR CENTERIn order to make it easier for companies to take part in the Spielwarenmesse® for the first time, the Spielwarenmesse eG team has set up the New Exhibitor Center (NEC). The joint area centred around trends and innovations in Hall 3A was once again a huge visitor magnet for people on the lookout for innovative product ideas. 75 exhibitors from 31 countries took advantage of their participation in the trade fair to enjoy in-depth business discussions.
EXHIBITORS DONATE TOYSFor many years, many exhibitors have traditionally donated some of their displayed products to a good cause at the end of the Spielwarenmesse®. This year, these donations once again supported the SOS Children‘s Village e.V. as well as kindergartens and social institutions in the Nuremberg region.
