It is a pride to head this memory of scientific and techno-logical activities in such a marked year in which we cele-brate 115 years of business union and scientific-techno-logical excellence. In addition, we celebrate with activity indicators that show high levels of loyalty and trust in our services, surpassing the 250 associates and the 540 clients in the different technological services that ANFA-CO-CECOPESCA provides from the CYTMA, the Center for Advanced Technologies of Research for the Marine and Food Industry, which in its short existence has already been consolidated as the scientific-technological refe-rence support structure for the marine and food sector nationwide.

Aware that the sector is unequivocally committed to tech-nology and quality to consolidate its leadership position in the present and the future, from ANFACO-CECOPESCA the development and implementation of the most advan-ced technology and knowledge is promoted, adapting it to the specific needs of our food industry, with special emphasis on the unstoppable process of digitization of the sector towards the fourth industrial revolution, thus enhancing the intensive use of the blue biotechnology tools. Thus, at the level of analytical technology, we have

more than 180 procedures accredited by ENAC, managing more than 28,000 samples and achieving a significant in-crease in activity, increasing the turnover by more than 16% and by more than 6% the number of customers com-pared to the previous year. From the Technical Assistan-ce and International Cooperation Area, more than 1,800 technical consultations have been solved and 70 courses have been carried out in companies both at national and international level, developing 165 cooperation activities in more than 38 countries in the last 21 years. In terms of R&D&I activity, 92 R&D&I projects have been executed, of which 75% have been carried out under contract with companies, being 18% international projects.

Our challenge is to consolidate the trust of our customers and associates through the excellence and quality of our services, which forces us to a constant renew, equipping ourselves with the best human and technical resources and working in a process of continuous improvement that allows the sector to have avant-garde tools that pro-vide the Spanish marine and food sector with the global benchmark in quality, food safety and innovation, as it has been for the past 115 years.

INVESTMENTS AND EQUIPMENT

Located on the Campus of the University of Vigo, ANFACO-CE-COPESCA has a plot of 6,000 m2 with a total constructed area of more than 10,000 m2, in which the Advanced Technology Center for Marine and Food Industry Research (CYTMA) is placed. This modern infrastructure, whose total investment was € 21.5 mi-llion, is distributed in five plants exclusively for research and it contains the most advanced and sophisticated technologies of processing, packaging and food preservation, robotics and vi-sion systems, equipment for the valorization of by-products and modern techniques for its application in food and health and food safety. It also contains a Pilot Plant destined to the scaling of technological solutions at semi-industrial level, processes simulation, development of prototypes of processing, product development using new technologies of processing and conser-vation, among others.

In 2018, ANFACO-CECOPESCA made an investment of almost € 0.8 million in an infrastructure for advanced research of aqua-culture systems. This infrastructure, which allows offering in-novative solutions to the sector in the field of commercial and emerging aquatic species, was funded by the Galician Agency of Innovation (GAIN) through a project for the consolidation and improvement of its scientific and technological infrastructures, with a 50% aid rate, co-financed by the European Regional Deve-lopment Fund (FEDER) within the framework of the operational program Galicia 2014-2020.

This facility is divided into three research areas that work in a coordinated manner: the Integrated Pilot Area for the research and breeding of aquatic organisms, which has various tanks for

the culture of fish and bivalve molluscs, a room for the culture of microalgae, a wet laboratory and a room for storage, pumping and water treatment; the Molecular Biology and Genetic Impro-vement Area, for which equipment for the extraction of nucleic acids, a digital PCR and a massive sequencer has been acquired; and the Area of Advanced Characterization by Systems coupled to Mass Spectrometry, in which a mass-coupled liquid chroma-tography equipment (LC-MS / MS) and a mass spectrometer with inductively coupled plasma (ICP-MS) have been incorporated.

As a whole, the new infrastructure will allow carrying out re-search activities taking into account aspects related to nutri-tion, farming conditions and environmental sustainability, aimed at offering support and innovative solutions to the aqua-culture sector. It will also increase the excellence of the Center at the national and international levels, making it possible to lead proposals and increase the returns, mainly from the EU Ho-rizon 2020 program, and it will have a positive impact on the competitiveness of companies in the aquaculture sector and in the creation of employment.

Among the facilities located in the Center, also stands out the laboratory of Control, Digitalization and advanced Automation Technologies (TECDA), which seeks to promote the implementa-tion of the so-called industry 4.0 in the agri-food sector. TECDA will implement new technological developments in areas such as artificial vision, process simulation, data management and analytics, automation and industrial robotization, advanced sensory, ICT tools for the integral control of processes or indus-trial cybersecurity.

ANALYTICAL TECHNOLOGY AREA

The service provided by the Analytical Technology Area, con-sisting of two large laboratories and several specialized units, is characterized by its high scientific-technical level, maintaining the quality and speed standards adequate to the demands of our customers and partners. All the analytical services offered are subjected to a constant review that makes us a point of refe-rence for physical-chemical, microbiological, toxicological and biomolecular tests in agri-food products, water and packaging.

During 2018, it has bet for a continued improvement of the ma-nagement system and the services provided to our customers and associates, expanding the UNE-EN ISO / IEC 17025 accredi-tation (nº96 / LE230) with new testing procedures, among which is the Norovirus detection, Genogroups I and II, and the hepati-tis A virus by real-time PCR in bivalve molluscs, being the first laboratory of the Autonomous Community of Galicia to achieve this recognition and one of the few centers in Spain. Also no-teworthy is the determination of sugars by LC-RID in food, the composition of fatty acids by GC / FID in olive, soy, sunflower

and cover oils of the same origin, and the determination of ele-ments (sodium, phosphorus and potassium) by ICP-AES in food, feed and fishmeal.

These new determinations have in turn allowed the Accredita-tion Program “Test for nutrition information” in accordance with Regulation CE No. 1169/2011 on foods, which adds to the two programs granted in October 2017, “Test of gluten and allergen in food” and “Microbiological food testing”, which make ANFA-CO-CECOPESCA the first center in the northwest of the country accredited for these three programs of the agri-food sector.

On the other hand, the procedure for adapting the test method according to the latest modification of Regulation (EC) 2568/91 on the characteristics of olive oils and olive-pomace oils, has also been revised. And it has also been recognized the extension of the accreditation scope for new veterinary drugs residues in the muscle of fishery and aquaculture products, incorporating tests for tetracyclines, erythromycin and tylosin.

Finally, in response to a request from many of our clients, we ob-tained the extension of the accreditation scope for the detection and plate count of positive β-glucuronidase from Escherichia coli, in live bivalve molluscs and echinoderms, tunicates and live gastropods. The performance of this test, together with the Salmonella research carried out by the VIDAS system, allows the positive release of live bivalve molluscs the day after the re-ception of the samples, complying with the criteria established in Regulation 2073/2005 related to the microbiological criteria of foods. Thus, ANFACO-CECOPESCA completes its offer of tests on live bivalve molluscs, which cover the needs of both the com-panies linked to the sector and the official control authorities, which need fast and solid methodologies to accelerate the re-lease of batches of products into the market with total security.

Besites all the above, the consulting service by phone and email, is a differentiator element considered excellent for its ability to provide solutions to our customers.
