Tonight’s Game: The Aces and River Cats play the finale of a four-game series tonight at Greater Nevada Field. Right-hander Shelby Miller will toe the rubber for Reno, opposite Sacramento righty Joan Gregorio.

Last Night’s Game: The Aces defeated the River Cats by a 5-1 score on Thursday night before a crowd of 6,257 at Greater Nevada Field. Right-hander John Omahen turned in his first quality outing in four starts for Reno, and a five-run fifth inning provided more than enough support. After the teams combined for four hits through the first four innings, the Aces (58-47) took a commanding five-run lead with four hits in the bottom of the fifth alone. Gabby Guerrero led off the frame with a double down the left-field line, advancing to third on a Carlos Rivero groundout. Following an intentional walk to Dan Rohlfing, Omahen helped his own cause when he reached on a sacrifice bunt as Guerrero beat the throw to the plate for the game’s first run. Ildemaro Vargas followed the pitcher with an RBI single to plate Rohlfing, with Vargas taking second base on the throw. Two batters later, Mitch Haniger laced a double to left-center to bring around Omahen and Vargas before he scored on a Kyle Jensen single, staking Omahen a 5-0 lead. Sacramento (47-59) got one run back in the sixth on a two-out double by Ehire Adrianza and an RBI single by Hunter Pence. The three-time MLB All-Star tried to extend his base hit to a double, but the Aces caught him in a rundown for the third out. Reno reliever Alexi Ogando issued a walk and a single with one out in the ninth putting the tying run in the on-deck circle. Summoned from the bullpen, Aces closer Jimmie Sherfy threw a wild pitch before inducing a popup and a groundout to complete the victory. Omahen (1-2) pitched seven innings to earn the win, allowing one earned run on five hits with one walk and five strikeouts. The outing marked his longest with Reno (previous: 6 1/3, July 7 at Fresno), and the first time he has allowed fewer than two runs since June 12 for Mobile against Jack-son. Sherfy notched his fifth save in 10 games with the Aces, and improved to 23-for-23 in save opportunities this season between Reno, Mobile and Visalia. Vargas and Guerrero logged multi-hit games as well.

Joan Gregorio: 24-year-old Joan Gregorio makes his 14th Triple-A start in the series finale tonight. Through 13 starts this season with Sacramento, the 6’7” right-hander is 3-6 with a 5.34 ERA (40 ER/66.1 IP), having allowed 68 hits (seven home runs) and 27 walks with 76 strikeouts. He made his Triple-A debut on May 12 against the Aces in Sacramento, tossing 5.0 innings of three-run ball, allowing five hits and one walk with four punchouts. He began the season with Double-A Richmond and went 0-2 with a 2.33 ERA (7 ER/27.0 IP) on 15 hits (one home run), six walks and 30 strikeouts. Gregorio owns a 32-32 record and a 3.92 ERA over 130 games (99 starts) in the minors. He was signed by the Giants as an international free agent from the Dominican Republic on May 27, 2010. Entering the season, Gregorio was listed No. 22 by MLB.com among San Francisco’s top prospects. In MLB.com’s midseason edition, he climbed all the way to the No. 10 slot in the Giants’ farm system.

Alone in Second: Reno enters tonight’s game in second place, 3.0 games behind first-place Tacoma in the Pacific Northern Division. Through 105 games last year, Reno was in third place, 9.0 games back of the Grizzlies for the division lead.

Big Month for Mitch: Mitch Haniger has been on a tear since his promotion to the Aces on June 10, but he’s been a tougher out in the month of July, posting ridiculous numbers against PCL opposition. He has 11 home runs, 31 RBI and a .418 (41-for-98) average in 25 games through July. Among Aces all-time monthly leaders, Haniger is tied with Kila Ka’aihue for first in dingers (May 2013), tied for third in RBI, and tied for 10th in hits with A.J. Pollock (July 2012). His current .418 average in the month would rank as the fifth-best clip by an Aces player.

Multi Mitch: Haniger went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, walk and run scored last night. Since his promotion from Mobile on June 10, Haniger leads all of professional baseball with 19 home runs and 33 extra-base hits (one triple, 13 doubles). He also ranks third in the Minor Leagues with 48 RBI and third among full-season MiLB teams with a .393 average (68-for-173). In 55 games with the BayBears, Haniger hit .294 (58-for-197) with 21 extra-base hits (five home runs, two triples, 14 doubles). He has 23 multi-hit and 15 multi-RBI games with the Aces this year.

Help Yourself: John Omahen executed a suicide squeeze last night, giving him his first Triple-A RBI. He became the ninth Aces pitcher to record an RBI this season, joining Anthony Banda, Matt Capps, Josh Col-lmenter, Kyle Drabek, Edwin Escobar, Edgar Garcia, Zack Godley and Braden Shipley.

Good Om(ah)en: Omahen tossed seven innings of one-run ball in last night’s victory, resulting in his first Triple-A win. The outing marked his first start of 7.0-plus innings since May 25 with Mobile against Biloxi when he fired 8.1 innings, allowing just one earned run. The one earned run allowed last night was his fewest given up since he yielded one earned run on seven hits over 6.0 innings with Mobile against Jackson on June 12.

HR Trios: In 2015, Jamie Romak (27), O’Brien (26) and Nick Evans (17) combined for 70 home runs, the most by an Aces trio in team history, narrowly breaking the 66 long balls hit between Cody Ransom (27), Wily Mo Pena (21) and Andy Tracy/Brandon Allen (18 apiece) in 2011. This year, Kyle Jensen (22), O’Brien (21) and Haniger (19) have amounted 62 home runs with a whopping 41 games remaining on the schedule.

Hacky Sac: With last night’s win, the Aces improved to 23-36 in 59 contests against Sacramento at Greater Nevada Field. The division rivals have played one another 16 times each of the last seven seasons, eight in each city. When in Reno, the River Cats have won or split the series the last six years, with the Aces taking five of eight games in 2009.

Through 105 Games: The Aces are 58-47 through 105 games, eight games ahead of last season’s 50-55 mark. The starting rotation has posted a 4.77 ERA (308 ER/580.2 IP) compared to last year’s 5.65 ERA (340 ER/541.2 IP) in 105 games. Last year, the offense had scored 548 runs through 105 contests (5.22 runs per game), slightly higher than this season’s 543 runs in 105 games (5.17 runs per game).

Tonight’s Starter: Right-hander Shelby Miller makes his third start for the Aces in the series finale against Sacramento. He was acquired by Arizona in a five-player trade with Atlanta on December 9, 2015. Miller started 33 games for the Braves last season, going 6-17 with a 3.02 ERA (69 ER/205.1 IP) and 171 strikeouts. He ranked eighth in the National League in innings pitched and 11th in ERA.

All-Star: Miller was named to the National League All-Star team last season. He also earned a midseason All-Star selec-tion in 2011 with Single-A Advanced Palm Beach in the Florida State League.

Last Outing: Miller took a no-decision on Sunday at Las Vegas after allowing four runs -- three earned -- on nine hits and one walk with six strikeouts over 5.0 innings. He departed with the Aces down 4-2, but Reno rallied for an eventual 7-4 victory.

Against the River Cats: Miller has never faced Sacramento.

Tomorrow’s Starter: Left-hander Edwin Escobar makes his 17th Minor League appearance (15th start) of the season and his 14th start for Reno in the Fresno series opener. He is 5-2 with a 4.38 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 76.0 innings in the Minor Leagues this season, including a 5-2 record with a 4.83 ERA and 50 strikeouts for the Aces.
