What is renewable energy?Renewable energy is power that does not deplete when used. Some examples are wind and solar power. Wind power does not deplete when being used and neither does solar power because it is abundant and easy to obtain. Wind Turbines Pros

Wind turbines operate quite simply. The energy in the wind turns around two or three propeller-like blades around a rotor. The rotor is connected to the main shaft, which turns a generator to make electricity.

Wind turbines work the opposite of a fans. Instead of using electricity to make wind, wind turbines use wind to make electricity. The wind turns the blades, which spin a shaft, which connects to a generator and makes electricity.

Wind turbines are a good source of renewable energy because wind is free and cannot be used up. It reduces the use of fossil fuels and does not burn greenhouse gases.

Wind Turbines ConsThe edges of wind turbines can actually be unsafe to natural life, especially birds and other flying creatures that may be in the area. Unfortunately there isn’t any way to prevent this.

Wind Turbines require a ton of open area to set up and chopping down trees kind of eliminates the whole green thing that you’re trying to do with them.

Wind turbines can be a total and complete pain to install and deal with on a regular basis. Some individuals believe that wind turbines are ugly, so your neighbors may also complain about them.

Solar Power Pros

Solar power is power obtained by using the sun’s rays and harnessing that power into solar panels that convert the rays into power.

Some pros of solar power are it’s renewable, abundant, environmentally friendly, reduces electricity costs, silent, and low maintenance.

We will have solar power for as long as the sun is alive. Which scientists believe will be for another 6.5 billion years.

Solar Energy Cons

It’s expensive, energy storage is also expensive, associated with pollution, and requires space.

Solar electricity production costed $968 billion in 2010. Storage of solar energy is very expensive because of the materials you must use in order to store the energy.

Tidal Energy ProsA huge barrage is built across a river estuary. Gates and turbines are built into the dam wall. These gates are opened, allowing the tide to flow in, and turn the turbines. This turns the generators and electricity is produced.

Tidal power is an environmentally friendly energy source. In addition to being a renewable energy, it does not put out climate gases and doesn’t take up a lot of space.

Tidal currents are very predictable. High and low tide develop with well-known cycles, making it easier to construct them with right dimensions, since we know what kind of powers the equipment will be exposed to.

Water has 1000x higher density than air, making it possible to generate electricity at quite slow speeds.

Tidal Energy ConsThe effects tidal power plants have on the environment are not entirely determined yet. We know that these power plants create green electricity but we do not know what effects these plants could have on the coastal wildlife and ecosystem.

It is important to realize that the methods for generating electricity from tidal energy are relatively new technologies and therefore very expensive. It is projected that tidal power will be commercially profitable within 2020 with better technology and larger scales.
