Two Projects in the Development Phase
§ SWCC and K.A.CARE are developing two projects to connect desalination plants with Renewable Energy:
⎯ Farasan: Existing thermal desalination
plant to be connected to Solar Thermal Energy
⎯ Haql: New Reverse Osmosis plant to be powered by Wind Energy

Major Project Objectives § Study the feasibility of different renewable desalination options and select the most suitable ones
for the existing desalination plants § § Develop renewable desalination projects and demonstrate the technical capabilities of the
technology
§ Strengthen the experience in planning and implementing renewable desalination projects
§ Strong cooperation with national companies and national institutions
§ Develop cooperation with international technology providers and transfer knowledge to KSA
§ Evaluate the technical and commercial performance of the renewable desalination projects and set a basis for large scale applications in the Kingdom
