About us Open since 2005 we offer full day care for children from 3 months to
five years in an area previously short of childcare options.
Based in a large building with bright airy rooms we pride ourselves on
creating personal and homely environment for children and their
families.
We believe every child deserves the best start in life and support this to
enable them to fulfil their potential. We ensure there is a secure
foundation through learning and development opportunities and
employ quality and inspirational staff to ensure consistency in our
setting. We want every child to be included and supported and make
good progress so that no child gets left behind. We plan activities
around the needs and interests of each unique child whilst working in
partnership with parents/carers.
We ensure that we employ only the most dedicated and desirable
staff, with a natural affinity for childcare and a great understanding of
the under 5 age group. We can promise that your child will be loved,
well cared for and treated with the respect and dignity that every child
deserves.
Within our nursery we provide healthy, balanced and nutritious meals
throughout the day. We source free-range, locally produced meat and
where possible use sustainable fish. We cater for any special dietary
requirements, preferences and food allergies.
We also provide equally nutritious vegetarian options and our fruit and
Vegetables, milk and bread are supplied by a local supplier.
We have installed web cams in each room and the garden which this
allows parents to log on to the internet at any time and watch their
children while they play!
We understand that it is not an easy decision putting your child in to
any form of day care and feel that webcams are an effective way to
ensure parents peace of mind, through secure and safe Webcams.
We at Rendlesham Day Nursery care greatly about the future for our
children and our planet and therefore try to be as environmentally
friendly as possible. We provide Biodegradable nappies in order to help
to preserve UK Landfill space and where suitable we use ecologically
safe cleaners and detergents. We recycle, paper, card, tins, glass and
plastic and re-use materials such as bottle tops, buttons and fabrics for
arts and craft activities.

Our baby room is spacious, bright and homely, with access to their own
private garden, a separate sleep room and changing facilities.
We cater for 9 children at any one time with a staff to child ratio of 1:3
Babies love to explore and experiment through a variety of sensory and
play experiences.
We provide a variety of natural objects, materials and music to
stimulate and engage, as well as relax and calm the children.
We provide treasure baskets aimed at children between 3 and 10
months and heuristic (exploratory) play aimed at children between
10 months and 2 years.
Children enjoy messy play activities throughout the day from
painting and drawing to splashing in bubbly water and playing in the
sand.
We have a cosy quiet corner with colourful books, cushions,
blankets and cuddly toys. We also use this area for group singing
and story telling.
There is a role-play area with a cooker, sink and cupboard for the
children to develop their imaginative skills whilst re-enacting their
own experiences.
Children are able to access the garden throughout the day and
ensure it’s at least once in the morning and afternoon. The outside
area is an extension of the adventure room and we provide outdoor
equipment, messy play and various activities to explore on a daily
basis.
Mealtimes – children all eat together in low level chairs and tables
cater for babies from weaning to eating with a plate, fork and
spoon.
6
Rainforest Room (2-3 years) Our Toddler room is a welcoming and spacious with access to a nappy changing
area and toilets and separate garden that has been laid with soft pour surfacing.
We cater for 12-16 children with an adult to child ratio of 1:4.
Rainforest room is the natural progression between Adventure room and Jungle
room.
The children are encouraged to sit at group activities and follow a loose routine
so that the transition to Jungle room is as easy and stress free as possible.
Rainforest room children ‘play with a purpose’. This includes imitation play,
creative play and slightly more physical play than with younger children.
Toddlers have their own “Messy play room” linked to their main toddler
room. We provide an assortment of messy play activities for the children
to experiment and manipulate from play dough, sand and water to
painting, sticking and foam play. We provide a variety of natural objects,

months and 2 and half years.

imaginative worlds. We change this regularly to the child’s to coincide
with their interests.
We have a cosy corner for the children to relax, play quietly and read
books.
We provide table top activities so that the children can learn through
play with an assortment of equipment that provides open ended
discussions.
At rest time we put comfortable sleep mats down for the children to
sleep on and each child has their own bedding which is laundered in non-
bio washing powder weekly.
Children are able to access the garden throughout the day and ensure it’s
at least once in the morning and afternoon. We provide a range of
equipment from climbing frames to scooters, bikes, role play and messy
play area for the children to enjoy.
7
Jungle room (3 -5 years)
Our Jungle room has an inviting and friendly atmosphere which is filled
with fun and adventure and has access to the main garden.
Jungle room caters for 24 children with an adult to child ratio of 1:8
Jungle room staff encourage independence and confidence so that
the children have the skills and assurance to take with them to school.
The children are encouraged to sit at group activities, story time and
par-take in basic self-registration. We follow a routine which is set to
allow each child to choose their own activities and develop at their
own speed, we recognise that these children learn in different ways
and provide a wide selection of activities.
There are toilets located off the main room, enabling children to take
themselves off but have staff close by to support with accidents and
general care. Staff encourage children to use the low level toilets
during their time in this room, ready for the transfer to school.
The classroom has access to the garden area, allowing the children a
free flow environment for indoor and outdoor play, at certain points
during the day.
We provide a role play area that changes on a regular basis to
encourage the children to play and act as various different
characters and in various different situations.
In our Maths area we have a variety of tools and apparatus that

and programmes specifically catering to their abilities. We also
provide programmable toys for the children to play with and
experiment with during the course of their day.
We have a designated Mark making area where the children
are able to put meanings to marks through drawing, writing their
name or letters. This table incorporates the use of stencils, pens,
pencils and a variety of other mark making tools. They have

items.
Key person In our setting a key person is a named member of staff with responsibilities for
a small group of children who helps those children in the group feel safe and
cared for. It involves the key person in responding sensitively to children’s
feelings and behaviours and meeting emotional needs by giving reassurance, such
as when they are new to a setting, and supporting the child’s well-being. The key person supports physical needs too, helping with issues like nappy
changing, toileting and dressing. That person is a familiar figure who is
accessible and available as a point of contact for parents and one who builds
relationships with the child and parents or carers. Children feel settled and
happy and are more confident to explore and as a result become more capable
learners.
Learning Journeys Rendlesham Day Nursery staff make regular observations on the children’s
learning and development, allowing us to ensure that all children’s needs are met
to the best of our ability.
These observations are stored in individual learning journeys for each child and
are available for you to view at any time.
Please add your own comments including things that your child has become
interested in, any new skills that they have learnt and/or any significant
experiences that your child may have had. This allows us to continually evaluate
our resources and start topics and discussions that are relevant to your child.
Parents and carers have a hugely important role to play in their child’s education.
“When parents and practitioners work together in Early Years settings, the
results have a positive impact on the children’s development and learning”
(EYFS 2007)
10
The EYFS in our Setting The Early years foundation stage (EYFS) is a framework that we follow to
support your child between birth and the age 5.
We ensure that we keep your child safe and promote their welfare. We use the
7 areas of development in our planning and ensure we are meeting the children’s
needs so that they can play and learn happily in ways which will help them
develop skills and knowledge across the Prime and Specific areas of learning in
the EYFS.
Two year old Progress Check
During the age of 2 your child will have a progress check which is a requirement
of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) 2012. Every child we look after
must have one during their time at nursery. Your child’s key worker will be
completing the check and will complete this when they best know your child; it
will be completed during their time in the Rainforest room.
11
Food and Drink Policy
We aim to provide a healthy nutritionally balanced diet for the children
attending.
We hope that all parents can be confident that we are offering your child a wide
variety of high quality food. Full Menus and dish specifications are available on
request. (Menu’s are subject to change.)
We are keen to introduce children to different religious and cultural festivals
through different types of food and drink.
No child will be forced to eat or drink anything against their will and food will
not be used as a reward or punishment.
We prepare all of our meals on the premises daily.
We do not use any salt in our cooking and try to avoid the use sugar where
possible. We aim to use fresh, local and ethical produce wherever possible.
At present we use * Dolphin friendly tuna
* Free range eggs
* Locally sourced seasonal fruit and vegetable - where
possible.
* Free range meat
*sustainable fish fillets
Each parent/carer is required as part of the admissions policy to inform the
nursery of any dietary requirements or allergies their child may have. We
Endeavour to cater for all special dietary requirements. These must be
12
discussed with the manager/key person and the cook. Occasionally we will
require parents to provide specialist ingredients.
Staff will be made aware of any allergies etc and will ensure that the food and
drink offered to the child takes this information in to account.
All dietary needs and preferences are displayed in the class rooms, staff room/
office and kitchen.
We cater for children whilst weaning, starting with pureed fruit and vegetables
until they progress on to other foods. If parents would like to introduce their
children to packet and jar foods, we ask that they bring it in clearly labeled with
the child’s name so that they are only used for that specific child.
If a parent would prefer to provide their child with a packed lunch, we request
that fizzy drinks, chocolate bars, chocolate yoghurts, sweets and crisps etc. are
not included.
Suggested alternatives would be salad sticks (cucumber, carrot, pepper etc),
sandwiches with a protein filling (tuna, ham, cheese) a piece of fruit, a yoghurt,
a snack bar.
Food should be stored in a cool bag with the required cool blocks or stored in
the fridge. Staff should be informed on arrival of where it needs to be stored.
We display an “eat well” poster on the parent notice board. This poster shows
percentages for a healthy balanced diet.
Snack and meal times are considered a ‘social time’ for staff and children to sit
and talk together. Bridge farm encourages good eating habits and promotes the
use of good manners.
Drink
We provide milk and water for all the children throughout the session.
Parents/carers can provide their children with water or juice in a named and
labeled water bottle should they prefer.
Children under the age of one will only be offered cooled boiled water. Milk is
available at snack times. Fruit juice is available at breakfast.
Milk
Bottles brought into the nursery will need to have the child’s name clearly
labeled on the bottle and any container with milk powder in
Bottles will then be stored in the milk fridge and used within 24 hours.
Once a bottle has been used any leftover milk will be discarded and the bottle
rinsed. Children between the ages of 1 and two (unless otherwise advised by the
parents) will be offered full fat cows milk at breakfast and snacks and for
bottle feeds during the day.
As per government guidelines children 2 and over will be offered semi skimmed
milk.

Sessions per week x £ per session x 51 weeks / 12 months. This is to equal 12
equal payments.
For children in receipt of the funding, the fees are calculated termly as follows.
No. of funded weeks in the term x (full weekly hours – funded sessions) x
hourly rate/ months in that term.
For all children that attend during the holiday, they will also be charged for the
holiday week as follows.
15
No. of Holiday weeks x sessions per week x £ per session / holiday months.
Fees will be payable on the first day of each calendar month, for the following
months sessions.
For example November’s fees are due on the 1st November.
Late payment of fees will incur a £10 charge on the following month’s invoice.
If fees are paid persistently late or not at all with no explanation, we will be
forced to terminate that child’s place. Under exceptional circumstances, the

Bridge Farm Day Nurseries are happy for parents/carers to speak to a member
of management if they have a query about the fees or if for any reason they are
likely to have difficulty making a payment on time.
Fees are reviewed on an annual basis and parents/carers will be given one
month’s notice on any changes.
Funded Only Children
Paperwork
All parents that wish for their children that wish to use their funding at Bridge
Farm Day Nurseries are required to complete a SEYF1 Form at the start of each
term; Stating the number of sessions that they wish to use and on which days.
Sessions used at other settings should also be stated on the SEYF1 form.
Bridge Farm Day Nurseries use government funding as stated on the SEYF1
form. This can be up to a total of 15 hours per week and used however the
parents wish in the session times we have available.
In addition to the SEYF1 form, on the first term of receiving funding, we also
require a form of Id for your child such as passport, birth certificate, medical
book/card or European Id Card. A copy of the ID will be kept in your child’s file.
Fees
Children that are just using their funded allocation of 15 hours are not required
to pay a deposit or registration fee due to Local guidance.
The 15 fours funding allocation covers childcare only and not meals and snacks.
Children that use just their 15 hours can choose to either bring in a packed
lunch and or tea and snacks or pay a small supplement to cover these costs.
Allocation of spaces
Bridge Farm Day Nurseries allocate places for children, which are on our waiting
list, as the spaces become available.
16
Priority is given to children, that are four and above and are in receipt of
funding (as stated in the directory of providers) over that of children three to
four years in receipt of funding.
Bridge Farm Day Nurseries prioritise siblings and full time children on the
waiting list.
Should two parents be on a waiting list and one requires full time and the other
requires two days a week, the decision will be made on the current availability.
For instance if just two days were available we would offer the place to the
parent requiring just two sessions. If there were 5 sessions available the full
time parents would take priority.
If two people were on the waiting list, both waiting for the same days, then
priority would be given to the person waiting for the longest time.

We ask that parents do not bring child(ren) into the

due to illness Nut Free Policy
Policy statement:
Bridge Farm and Rendlesham Day Nurseries aim to practise a nut free
policy (although we recognise that this cannot be guaranteed). This policy
provides guidance to reduce the risk to those children and adults who
may suffer an anaphylactic reaction if exposed to nuts to which they are
sensitive.
Bridge Farm and Rendlesham Day Nurseries aim to protect children who
have allergies to nuts yet also help them, as they grow up, to take
responsibility as to what foods they can eat and to be aware of where
they may be put at risk.
We attach our Nut Policy to our welcome packs, so parents are aware
that we do not allow nuts or nut products within our setting for snack,
lunch boxes or party cake or seasonal treats.
Our Nut Free Zone logo is sited on our Website, welcome pack and
Facebook pages.
Definition
Anaphylaxis (also known as anaphylactic shock) is an allergic condition that can be severe
and potentially fatal.
Anaphylaxis is your body’s immune system reacting badly to a substance (an allergen),
such as food, which it wrongly perceives as a threat.
The whole body can be affected, usually within minutes of contact with the allergen,
though sometimes the reaction can happen hours later.
Staff
The responsibility falls on all staff to read and then follow this policy both in nursery
and when out on trips and outings.
Staff and volunteers must ensure that they do not bring in or consume nut
products within the nursery and ensure they follow good hand washing practice.
(This includes but is not limited to, breads, sweets and chocolates, peanut
butter, pesto, peanuts and cereal bars)
Caution must be taken at certain times of year such as Easter and Christmas.
If Staff distribute confectionary, care must be taken to ensure that no nuts are
included in the product. Fruit sweets are a better alternative. Particular
products that are a cause for concern are: Celebrations, Roses, Heroes, Quality
Street, other mixed boxes of chocolates, Homemade cakes and treats.
All product packaging must be checked for warnings directed at nut allergy
sufferers eg Not suitable for nut allergy suffers, This product contains nuts,
This product may contain traces of nuts and if these or similar are displayed,
the product must not be used in nursery without supervision of staff and
supervised hand washing.
We have staff members trained to administer an Epi Pen.
18
Parents
Must notify staff of any known or suspected allergy to nuts and provide all needed
information detailed on their child’s individual Healthcare plan.
Parents must not to bring in any food or treats (such as for birthdays) unless they have
checked the ingredients carefully, likewise for snack and lunch box choices
Homemade snack or party food contributions must have a label detailing all ingredients
present and the kitchen environment where the food was prepared must be nut free. If
you’re unsure about a selection please speak to a staff member before bringing in the
food item into the nursery
Children
All children are regularly reminded about the good hygiene practice of washing hands
before and after eating which helps to reduce the risk of secondary contamination.
Likewise children are reminded and carefully supervised to minimise the act of food
sharing with their friends.
Health Plans and Emergency Response
We have individual Healthcare plans for children with allergies and Allergy Lists are
displayed with the child’s photo in their relevant room (Medication will be stored,
administered and documented in accordance with our Administering Medicine Policy).
Symptoms
The symptoms of anaphylaxis usually start between 3minutes and 60 minutes after
contact with the allergen. Less commonly, they can occur a few hours or even days after
contact.
An anaphylactic reaction may lead to feeling unwell or dizzy or may cause fainting due to
a sudden drop in blood pressure.
Narrowing of the airways can also occur at the same time, with or without the drop in
blood pressure. This can cause breathing difficulties ,wheezing and suffocation.
Other symptoms of anaphylaxis:
swollen eyes, lips, genitals, hands, feet and other areas (this is called angioedema),
itching,
a strange metallic taste in the mouth,
sore, red, itchy eyes,
changes in heart rate
a sudden feeling of extreme anxiety or apprehension
itchy skin or nettle-rash (hives)
unconsciousness due to very low blood pressure
abdominal cramps, vomiting or diarrhoea, or nausea and fever.
Anaphylaxis varies in severity.
Sometimes it causes only mild itchiness and swelling, but in some people it can cause
sudden death.
Anaphylaxis can lead to death if breathing becomes severely obstructed or if blood
pressure becomes extremely low (known as shock).
If symptoms start soon after contact with the allergen and rapidly get worse, this
indicates that the reaction is more severe.
