Georgian townhousesGeorgian townhouses are quarterspattern that characterize many British towns and cities, dating to the XVII and XVIII centuries. The most important feature of houses in this areas is the development of tall, narrow houses, which are built in rows called terraces. The idea to build as many houses as possible on one street increased the density of flats and provided a big return on investment. So Georgian townhouses granted a large number of living accomodations. An important characteristic of Georgian town planning is the garden square, created by the erection of some terraces around a free area. This space is used by residents for social purposes and recreation.

Georgian townhouses were built on four or five storeys, including the basement. Their standard layout is one room front and one back. At the basement (ground level) there were cellars and storage, while at the first floor were situated the most formal areas of the building (dining room); the other floors were usually used as bedrooms, with small dressing rooms. In the end, the top floor was often used as the childrens lodgins.Furthermore they were often used by those visitors who stayed only for a short period in cities like Bath or London.
