Removing the toilet seat for bathroom repair and home improvement Personally, I believe the toughest part in home repair is doing the bathroom. I know most of you out there also believe the same. Recently, when I had to redo my bathroom, just because the flooring was breaking up and the toilet seat looked so outdated in the modular bathroom, I called in a handyman. Now, you’d believe that this professional would have done it all and I would have just supervised. However, the scenario was different, this handyman I had come home, tuned out to be a friend from college. Well, and the first thing he asked me to do on seeing the bathroom was, “why don’t you do it yourself and I will assist.” Well, I was not sure if I could do it, but I got down to do it. When I got down to update the bathroom, this is when I realize that toilet can really be a huge barrier for a DIY home improvement. Removing the toilet seat for bathroom repair and home improvement

Personally, I believe the toughest part in home repair is doing the bathroom. I know most of

you out there also believe the same. Recently, when I had to redo my bathroom, just

because the flooring was breaking up and the toilet seat looked so outdated in the modular

bathroom, I called in a handyman. Now, you’d believe that this professional would have

done it all and I would have just supervised.

However, the scenario was different, this handyman I had come home, tuned out to be a

friend from college. Well, and the first thing he asked me to do on seeing the bathroom was,

“why don’t you do it yourself and I will assist.” Well, I was not sure if I could do it, but I got

down to do it.

When I got down to update the bathroom, this is when I realize that toilet can really be a

huge barrier for a DIY home improvement. So, here are a few tips from my experience on

how you can remove a toilet for home improvement.

Required tools:

For removing the toilet seat there are a few important tools that you would require, these

include:

Crescent wrench/pliers

Gloves

Plastic grocery bags

You may also need a paint scraper for scrapping of the wax seal and LiquiLock for solidifying

the water in the bottom of the toilet, so there is no water spilling when removing the seat.

Procedure:

Begin by turning off the water supply to the toilet, there will be a knob connected to a hose

which will be connected to the toilet tank. Post turning of the supply of water, disconnect the

hose from the knob.

Now remove the top of the toilet to make the next step tad easier. Flush the toilet so that

the tank is completely empty. Now, the dirty work – scoop off the remaining water in the

bowl, and absorb the left over with a sponge. You can also use LiquiLock to solidify water in

the bottom of the toilet to save yourself from the dirty job.

Next, use the wrench to unscrew bolts, bolts which will be on the either side of the bowl in

the base connecting the toilet to the floor. Now rock the seat side to side until the wax seal

under the toilet breaks, lift the bolts and remove the toilet off the base. Scrap off the wax

seal using a paint scraper and there you are done.
