Remove Fare Basis Code from Fare Calculation Line Background and Frequently Asked Questions
Updated June 8, 2012
Introduction
Sabre Travel Network®
subscribers may sometimes encounter issues with fare calculation
line and ticket digit limitation in complex, extensive itineraries. To alleviate some of
these problems, the fare basis code will be removed from the fare calculation line to
provide additional space. It will continue to be displayed in all other places as displayed
today.
Background
1. Why is the fare basis code being removed from the fare calculation line?
The removal of the fare basis code from the fare calculation line relieves space
limitations on a fare calculation display when the fare basis and other fields exceed the
system limits for a pricing response. When the system limit is exceeded, users are
required to issue tickets manually and/or as separate tickets. Removing the fare basis
code from the fare calculation line frees up character space to allow automated ticketing
to process.
2. Does this apply to all subscriber locations?
The fare basis code is only removed from the fare calculation line for enhanced air
shopping and pricing (ATSE V2). The enhancement is already effective in over thirty
countries, including AE / AR / BH / BO/ BR / BZ / CL /CR / CO / DK / EC / EG / FI /
GT / HN / IT / JO / KW / LB / MX / NI / NO / OM / PA / PE / PY / QA / SA / SE / SV /
SY / UY / VE / YE.
In late November 2011, the fare basis code was removed from the fare calculation line for
all Sabre Connected points of sale in Chile (CL), Colombia (CO), Ecuador (EC),
Paraguay (PY) and Uruguay (UY).
The fare basis code will be removed from the fare calculation line for all Sabre
Connected points of sale in Russia (RU & XU), Armenia (AM), Ukraine (UA) and
Romania (RO) in July 2012. It will also be removed for subscriber locations in Anguilla
(AI), Bahamas (BS), British Virgin Islands (VG), Dominican Republic (DO), Antigua &
Barbuda (AG), Aruba (AW), Barbados (BB), Dominica (DM), Grenada (GD),
Guadeloupe (GP), Guyana (GY), Montserrat (MS), Curacao (CW), St. Maarten (SX),
Bonaire & St. Eustatuis (BQ), St. Kitts & Nevis (KN), St. Lucia (LC), St. Vincent (VC),

Suriname (SR), Trinidad and Tobago (TT), Haiti (HT), Jamaica (JM ), Martinique (MQ),

Plans are still in development to extend the fare basis code removal from the fare
calculation line for the US (US), Bermuda (BM) and Canada (CA), with an update on this
release to be provided later in 2012.
The removal of the fare basis code from the fare calculation line applies if you are
AAA’d into a PCC in a country and/or located in a country where it has been activated.
Note that the fare basis code is not removed from the fare calculation line if you are
AAA’d into a PCC that is not in an activated country, even via a sale/ticket override.
3. Is this a mandate?

IATA Resolution 722 Para 3.16 Fare Calculation and in accordance with BSP and ARC
reporting guidelines.

Sabre TSTS host to determine how their code might be affected. The change to the fare
calculation line has already been loaded to that host and users can run queries against test
data to identify impacts to their systems. Fare basis code data remains available for each
of these queries, but in different locations in the data responses. Please consult the Sabre
Web Services Help Desk or your account’s technology team for further assistance in
locating necessary data elements.

provides.
