Remote Learning Updates-March 16, 2020 Dear KIPP Charlotte Families, We hope this letter finds you well. We are reaching out to inform you of our plan to continue supporting the academic growth and development of our students while schools are closed in response to COVID-19. This plan will cover the next two weeks (March 16 through March 27). Given the ever-changing nature of this situation, we will update our plans and share changes as they arise. It is the number one priority of KIPP Charlotte Public Schools to maintain the health and safety of our students and families, while simultaneously preventing as much learning loss as possible. In addition to academic support, we want to ensure that all students have access to meals. Please see details below for both meal distribution and academic work and support. Breakfast and Lunch Distribution- Grab and Go Starting Wednesday, March 18, our school cafeterias on both campuses (KIPP Change Academy Elementary and KIPP Academy Charlotte Middle) will be open to serve FREE breakfast and lunch to any students/families that need meals. Students/families can go to EITHER campus to pick up meals. Meals will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. Breakfast will be from 7:30-8:30 am daily. Lunch will be from 11:30-12:30pm daily. Students/Families can pick up meals to take home and eat. Please bring something to carry home meals. Please note: if you are unable to come to one of our schools for meals, there are several community organizations that are also offering free meals to students. Please see information to the right: Academic Work and Support All students are receiving work for reading, math, and science/social studies that they should complete over the course of two weeks. The work is a review of previously learned skills so students do not have to worry about mastering new content on their own. In addition, we will provide information regarding accessing optional online learning platforms, if students are able to access online work. Work Packet Pick-Up Information All student work packets will be available for pick up on Wednesday, March 18 from 7am to 7pm. Please come to KIPP Change Academy at any time during this day to pick up work for the next two weeks. Student/Family Communication In order to provide consistent touch points and support, teachers will be calling each student daily to help with work, check in, and share updated information. During this call, teachers will: Check-in with students about the work they have completed Go over specific questions and problems Give them words of encouragement to do their absolute best!

We hope this letter finds you well. Teachers will coordinate with you on the best time to call. This call is also an opportunity for you as the parent to touch base with your child’s teacher and ask any questions that might be on your mind.

It is our recommendation that, as often as possible, you establish a set time for when your child will complete his/her work so that he/she is experiencing consistent routines and procedures for engaging in academic tasks.

Below is some guidance around the work that is being sent home with your child so that he or she can have continued practice while we are closed.

KIPP Change Academy- Elementary SchoolGrade Level Student Work Plan (Daily Work)Kinder and 1st

● Reading: Complete daily reading assignments based on packet directions. ● Math: Complete one math practice assignment each day

2nd ● Reading: Read one passage and answer questions daily. ● Math: Complete daily assignment. ● Science: Read the science article and answer the comprehension questions daily.● Independent Reading: Read at least 1 chapter book per week.

o If you don’t have access to books, please let your teacher know. You can also listen to books via audio books, or find book videos online.

o Complete independent reading logo Complete one book project for each book you read.

3rd – 4th ● Reading: Complete one reading passage and answer questions each dayo Be sure to annotate/mark-up the text and use Plan of Attack for every passage!

● Math: Complete two math assignments daily. ● Science: Read the science article and answer the comprehension questions● Independent Reading: Read at least 1 chapter book per week.

o If you don’t have access to books, please let your teacher know. You can also listen to books via audio books, or find book videos online.
