1) The ability to connect to your PC and control your local resources from any device attached to the internet.

2) Most common tools used for Remote Connectivity are “Go to My PC”, “Log Me In”, “Remote Desktop”, and “VNC” Virtual Network Connection.

3) All the above tools have there particular benefit depending on your remote access requirements, and the infrastructure you have in place.

For example if you are just trying to connect to your PC at your home to access your

documents etc. you would chose either Go to my PC or Log Me In.

If your are connecting to an office with a server that houses shared documents and resources, and they need a high level of security and accountability, you would chose Remote Desktop or VNC.

In computer networking, remote access technology allows logging into a system as an authorized user without being physically present at its keyboard. Remote access is commonly used on corporate computer networks but can also be utilized on home networks.

A client launches there web browser or remote access application and connects and chooses the resource (PC) they want to connect to. They are challenged with an ID and Password to gain access, and if the request matches one of the remote access policies defined for the server. The users account is enabled for remote access Client/server authentication succeeds.

After the client has been identified and authorized, access to the there local computer or company resource can be limited or they can be wide open depending on the remote access profile of the client. Otherwise, all services typically available to a user connected to a local area network (including file and print sharing, Web server access, and messaging) are enabled by means of the remote access connection.
