Ninth Edition October 2013 Remington named Baltimore's best 'Up and Coming Neighborhood' It’s bats, boos and things that go bump in the night! Hauntingdon—Spooky fun for the whole family! Right here in Remington is Baltimore's premier fam- ily-friendly Halloween block party extravaganza! A community driven event, Hauntingdon provides a fun, free, and safe place for children of all ages to enjoy Halloween. Dozens of decorated porches pro- vide fun trick-or-treating spots for kids to engage in activities, there will be live music, a parade and more! It takes place Saturday, October 26, 2013, from 5 pm to 8 pm, on the 2900 block of Huntingdon Ave. with the whole block closed off for the fun! The September 18th edition of City Paper was the Best of Baltimore issue, where readers and the pa- per's staff decide the winners in hundreds of catego- ries. This year, City Paper told its readers something that most people in Remington already know: that Rem- ington is a really great place to live. We were named the 'Best Up and Coming Neighborhood' for 2013. The article cites our affordable housing, cool busi- nesses and new development, including the Tire Shop and the Remington Main Street proposal. In addition, Remington businesses won in eight other categories. Stony Run Clean up

On October 19, Friends of Stony Run will be conducting a clean up of the Run through Wyman Park (all day) and invite the commu-nity to join them in their efforts. This event was a great success last year. Come join and make our neighborhood cleaner and safer. Go to http://stonyrun.org/calendar-events/ for more information.

Keep Winter out this year!

On November 2nd between 10 am and 2 pm neighborhood volunteers will be working with Al-pha Phi Omega, a local JHU fraternity prepping homes for winter.

This is a free service, so please, call and register for participation. Appointments will be set up for that date and a time that is convenient for you. Participants are required to be at the house at the appointed times.

The APO fraternity will do work that includes in-stalling plastic on windows to keep out drafts, pre-paring pipes to prevent freezing and other steps that will help lower heating bills and keep the house warmer when the temperatures drop.

Hayles and Howe

Hayles and Howe, located at 2700 Sisson Street, is an international company specializing in ornamental plas-terwork and scagliola, which are architectural elements that resemble stone. The company was founded in Bris-tol, England in 1978, and expanded to the United States in 1992. Their Remington office is the headquar-ters for Hayles and Howe's U.S. operations. Vice Presi-dent Graham Banks is in charge of the Remington of-fice.

Hayles and Howe has completed restoration projects on a number of high-profile buildings in both England and the United States. They have worked on Bucking-ham Palace, Windsor Castle and the Royal Opera House. Here in the U.S. they have done restoration on Grand Central Station in NYC and in Baltimore, their projects include the Lyric Opera House, the Hippo-drome Theater and the Tremont Grand Ballroom on Charles Street.

Back in April and May, after five years of work and dozens of community workshops, the first draft of the Remington Neighborhood Plan was revealed to the community. Several dozen comments about the Plan were received. Now, a final draft of the Plan has been prepared that incorporates many of the comments received, and is ready to be reviewed by the public.
