March 2020 - Newsletter #7
Dear Parents/Guardians of Albert McMahon Students:
With term 2 reports completed and parent
conferences scheduled for Tuesday March 10th, we
are ‘springing’ into term 3! Parents are encouraged
to contact their child’s teacher to get information
about his/her progress up to this point of the year.
It is a good idea to get suggestions on what needs to
be worked on and how it can be reinforced at home.
This is truly a partnership between the school and
the home in support of our children’s learning.
This year, we had 3 teams registered for volleyball
season! So many students wanted to participate and
learned the new rules. If you were able to watch a
game, you will see that the new rules are designed
for more students to get a touch of the ball and to
reinforce foundational skills. Thank you to all the
coaches, parents and volunteers. Without you, our
kids wouldn’t have a chance to play volleyball.
As the weather starts to improve, please listen to
the announcements about updates on our biking club.
Last but not least, I appreciate the support of our
parents, staff and students when there are
unexpected events at school. A recent example is,
of course, the construction needed to replace our
sewage pump. Timely pick-up of students with short
notice and your patience during this situation was
much appreciated.
Sincerely,
Hardeep Grewal Cyndie Anderson

ELIGIBLE FOR FREE EYE EXAM
AND GLASSES! School-age
children’s eyes are constantly in use in
the classroom and at play so it’s
important to ensure they are working their best. You
child may not realize they have a vision problem – they
may simply assume everyone sees the way they do. Eye
See…Eye Learn is a program that provides free eye
exams and eyeglasses, if necessary, to kindergarten
children by a BC Doctor of Optometry. Visit
www.bcesel.ca to book your child’s eye exam with a
participating doctor.

BOUNDARY CATCHMENT SURVEY
School enrollment for Albert McMahon Elementary
continues to grow. The school is currently
over capacity and the continued enrollment growth
projections for the school will only make the school
more crowded or restrict students from attending
their catchment school. The School Board has
requested a full review of all of the school
catchment boundaries. Prior to determining the
details for boundary changes, the School District is
interested in obtaining feedback by initiating
a survey.
Please complete the targeted Boundary Catchment
Survey for Albert McMahon / Cherry Hill by clicking
on the link below. Thank you for your input!

COVID-19 UPDATE Currently, I have been providing updates on COVID-
19 information as I receive them. I will do my best
to keep parents and staff updated with information
from our district and provincial health partners on
this issue as I know it is a concern for the health of
our community.
People who are planning travel should check the
latest travel notices and advisories on the
Government of Canada’s website
(https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/advisories).
Information about COVID-19, including advice and
guidance to schools, is regularly updated on the BC
Centre for Disease Control site:
http://www.bccdc.ca/health-
info/diseasesconditions/coronavirus-(novel).
There are two important ways to prevent and control
respiratory viruses in school settings:
• The first is for students and staff who are
ill with respiratory illness symptoms (fever,
cough, fatigue, and/or muscle aches) to stay
home from school. If your child is not feeling
well, we ask that you keep them home so that
they can rest and recover. As always,
remember to inform the school of the
absence.
• The second way to prevent and control
respiratory viruses is the consistent practice
of good respiratory etiquette and hand
hygiene. Good respiratory etiquette includes
covering the mouth and nose during coughing
or sneezing with a tissue or a flexed elbow
and disposing of used tissues in a plastic-
lined waste container, followed by hand
hygiene. Hand hygiene is the washing of
hands with plain soap and water, which is
effective at removing visible soil as well as
viruses.
Children in the school setting should clean their
hands:
• before leaving home and on arrival at school
• after using the toilet
• after breaks and sporting activities
• before food preparation
• before eating any food, including snacks
• before leaving school
If we all follow these recommendations, we will limit
our risk of becoming ill and transmitting to others.
Hope you all have an illness-free and enjoyable spring
break!

Camp Features
Welcome to Royal Soccer Club’s #1 grassrootssummer soccer day camps in Canada. Since 1993, we’ve hosted our unique camps to over 300,000 boys & girls across 100 locations in 6 provinces. We are a registered non-profit community organization dedicated to providing the best summer day camp experiences. We believe helping build confidence while learning leadership, team building and problem solving skills goes along with creating lifelong friendships at camp. Of course, no camp would be complete without having tons of FUN!
...more than just a soccer camp!
All boys & girls aged 5 to13 (at time of camp) are encouraged to register for any or all of our 10 weekly sessions in July & August. See our Camp Program section for details.

Our amazing morning sessions focus on soccer which include: warm up games, individual skill development, team building activities and mini-World Cups. Campers are grouped by age, size & ability, where possible.
$124/week*(week# 1 & 6 rate only: $104)* see applicable discounts
$199/week*(week# 1 & 6 rate only: $159)* see applicable discounts
We offer morning and full day sessions. There is limited space in the full day sessions for the younger age groupsdue to pool ratio restrictions.
Our fun filled full day sessions combine all the aspects of our morning session with our exciting afternoon program. Afternoon activities consist of a less structured format that typically includes an afternoon leisure swim, water-based activities and/or camp games (swim is optional but most campers do participate). The swim is fully supervised by camp staff & pool lifeguards but is subject to the pool schedule, availability and ratios (some locations will not swim
every day). Campers may be required to rotate or share swim time at certain pools. Supervised activities for non-swimming campers will depend on the makeup of the group. There may not be any soccer played in the afternoons. If you have any swim-related concerns, please see your onsite Supervisor.
Campers should bring sunscreen, water, snacks (no nut products),running shoes (soccer shoes & shinpads are optional), knapsack/cooler and, for full day campers, a packed lunch. If participating in the afternoon swim, bring a swimsuit/towel. NUT POLICY: We strive to maintain a nut-free camp and ask that you refrain from sending peanut or nut products to camp.
