Forthcoming Launch of Third National Hepatitis BMapping Project 2014­15 The Second National Hepatitis B Mapping Project2013­14 reported that only 14% of people with chronichepatitis B (CHB) received appropriate monitoring fortheir condition. CHB is estimated to affectapproximately 220,000 Australians, however less than50% have been diagnosed. This third national reportto be launched later this year can be used to monitorthe impact of initiatives to increase treatment uptakeand appropriate care for people with CHB. Read more

A roadshow event showcasing new approaches toHIV treatment and its prevention was rolled out overtwo weeks across 8 locations in Queensland from 25July to 4 August, 2016. Hosted by the HIV FoundationQueensland and joined by partnering organisations,the roadshow scheduled a series of ‘Treatment asPrevention’ (TasP) accredited dinner meetings, aswell as clinic and hospital meetings. Monitoring hepatitis C treatment uptake inAustralia: Reimbursements for new treatmentduring March to June 2016

Now with 4 months of data, the Kirby Institutesmonitoring of HCV uptake is showing some trends. Itis thought that with lag time about 10% of people withchronic HCV may have been treated. Read the fullreport

Bristol­Myers Squibb has advised that they aredeleting:

Videx (didanosine) 125 mg and 200 mgcapsules. Supply will continue until theexisting stock has run out.Zerit (Stavudine) 20mg capsules. Supply of30 mg and 40 mg will remain unaffected. The

The Second edition of the Post­ExposureProphylaxis after Non­Occupational andOccupational Exposure to HIV: AustralianNational Guidelines is now available. Theseguidelines outline the management of individuals whohave been exposed (or suspect they have beenexposed) to HIV in non­occupational and occupationalsettings. There are currently no data from randomisedcontrolled trials of the use of post­exposureprophylaxis (PEP) and evidence for use has beenextrapolated from animal data, mother to childtransmission, occupational exposure and smallprospective studies of PEP regimens in HIV­negativemen. Sexual Health Infolink launches new PartnerNotification service for clinicians in NSW

NSW clinicians requiring assistance contactingpartners of patients diagnosed with HIV and STIs canuse a new service that offers assistance to supportthe clinician, the patient and/or the patient'spartner. The aim of the service is to ensure access totesting and treatment quickly to reduce the onwardtransmission of STIs. Partner notifications canbe made online with all information encrypted,transmitted and stored securely.

Both clinicians and patients can refer sexual contactsanytime using the secure online site or by telephoneduring business hours on 1800 451 624.

While GPs usually make up the majority of participants in our courses, sexual health physicians, AoDand general physicians as well as ID physicians who might be wanting to update their viral hepatitis skills areencouraged to attend. Nurses working in hepatitis are also able to attend these, in addition to courses inthe Nursing Program.
