School SecurityToday we have had yet another break and enter. Last term we experienced a larger than normal number of break and enters.
Whilst no major items have been stolen the cost of repairs takes funds away from learning programs. We have placed an order for security cameras and these will be installed over the next few weeks. Hopefully the cameras will act as a deterrent or alternatively lead to prosecution.
Should you notice anyone, other than staff, in the playground after hours please call CrimeStoppers 1800 333 000
Mobile PhonesWe have an increasing number of students bringing mobile phones to school. Currently children are required to hand their phone in at the office upon their arrival and collect them on their way home. Parents often tell me their child requires a phone to keep them safe.
As a mother I understand this but I wonder how many phones are set up with the appropriate software to provide your child with support in case of emergency. Whilst discussing this with a staff member she alerted me to an ex-cellent app called Emergency+. The Emergency+ app is a free app developed by Australia's emergency services and their Government and industry partners. The app uses GPS functionality built into smart phones to help a Triple Zero (000) caller provide critical location details required to mobilise emergency services.
This app is certainly worth a look should you feel your child needs a mobile phone to help keep them safe.
Selective High School Applications Parents of students in Year 5 who are thinking about attending a selective high school in 2021 are encouraged to lodge an online application.
The selective schools exams (i.e. Farrer) will occur in March next year. Applications close on Monday 11th November 2019. A detailed note has been sent home with every Year 5 student to ensure the information is available early to parents. Please don’t miss this information or opportunity.
World Teachers’ DayAll Australian teachers have a special day, known as World Teachers' Day. It's celebrated on the last Friday in October and doesn't coincide with actual World Teachers' Day.
The international holiday for World Teacher's Day was established by UNESCO on October 5, 1994 and since then it's annually celebrated on this day in many countries around the world. Last Friday teaching staff enjoyed a special morning tea in recognition of their work and commitment within and beyond the classroom.

Transition report Week 4Our transition program has come to an end! We had our final transition session on Wednesday 30th October and after 7 visits to ‘big’ school, our Kindergarten students for 2020 are more than ready.
I would like to thankMrs Emily McInerney, Mrs Robyn Inglis, Miss Dom Inglis, Mrs Anna Manners, Mrs Christie Nicholson, Mrs Chrissy Kemp, Miss Jill Nean, Mrs Belinda Hanlon, and Mrs Sharon Toomey for all their hard work in making the Transition program such a success. I would also like to thank all of the SLSO’s and office staff.
All students attending Kindergarten in 2020 will be sent a letter in early December stating their Best Start interview time. These interviews will occur from Wednesday 29 January to Friday 31 January 2020 and each child will come to school for approximately one hour. Students will then start school for whole days as of 9:10am, Monday 3rd February 2020.
It is never too late to enrol at our wonderful school so if you know anyone with a little person who is ready for school, please contact the office!
