Rembrandt
• Is considered one of the greatest painters and printmakers in European art history.
• He was born in 1607 and died in 1669
• He was born in Leiden, Netherlands
Rembrandt continued
• Its said that his family had between 7-10 kids
• His family was very wealthy
• He attended Latin School. He later enrolled in Leiden University
Frans Hals
• Born 1580–August26, 1666
• He was a Dutch painter
• He painted portraits and show a lot of talent and quickness in his art
Frans HalsHe was born in Antwerp.
After Antwerp was taken over by Spain his family moved to Haarlem.
He took painting lessons from Flemish painter Karel Van Mander.
Rembrandt• In 1606 on 15 July,
Rembrandt is born in Leiden as the ninth child.
• 1613-1620 Rembrandt attended a Latin school.
• 1620-1623 Rembrandt is apprenticed to the Leiden painter, Jacob van Swanenburgh.
• 1624 Rembrandt owns his own studio.
• 1625 Rembrandt is apprenticed for six months to the painter Pieter Lastman .
• 1628 Rembrandt receives his first students.
Rembrandt• In 1632 He paints his first
group portrait “The anatomy lesson of Dr Pulp.”
• 1632-1646 He paints a series of “the passion of Christ.”
• 1634 On 22 June, Rembrandt marries Saskia van Uylenburgh .
• 1638 daughter, Cornelija, is born, she survives less than a month.
• 1640 a second daughter also named Cornelija only lives a couple of weeks.
• 1641 they have a son named Titus.
• 1654 they have a daughter named Cornelija.
Rembrandt• 1656-1658 they have no
money and lose all there possessions.
• 1662 Rembrandt paints “steel master”
• 1666 Rembrandt paints “Jewish bride.”
• 1668 On 28 February, Titus marries Magdalena van Loo. He dies two months later and is buried at the Westerkerk.
• 1669 Magdalena van Loo has a daughter, Titia. Rembrandt paints two more self-portraits. He dies on 4 October and is buried at the Westerkerk
Hals• Frans Hals was born
into the family of a cloth-maker of Dutch origin
• 1600-03, Frans studied under Karel van Mander in Haarlem
• In 1610, he became a master of the St. Lukas Guild
• and in 1644 was elected its deacon
• Hals life is not eventful and is little known
• short trip to Antwerp in 1616
• but died in poverty
conclusion• I personally think that Rembrandt and Hals
are amazing painters for there time.
• They both express great techniques that were used for the baroque period.
