Elements of the Mass - The Church Building This week we continue to look at the Elements of the Mass. The information presented comes from the series “Elements of the Catholic Mass” by The Liturgical Institute and can be found at www.formed.org. If you have not already registered an account, St. John’s has paid for a subscription so all you need to do is create a login and search, then listen/watch. You can do so on your computer or download the app. To create your free account, go to stjohne-

vangelistparish.formed.org. If you have any questions or would like a tutorial, please call, text, or email Rose Debes at 785-259-3779 or [email protected].

The Catholic Church is a sacramental church, not only referring to the seven sacraments, but to the way we see the world. Some see bread, but we see the body of Christ. Some see wine, but we see the blood of Christ. In the same way, the church building is not just a neutral place, but is rather a place where prayer hap-pens. It is a sacramental sign both of the body of Christ and of the heavenly Jerusalem. The Constitution of the Sacred Liturgy, No. 2 states, “The liturgy daily builds up those who are within into a holy temple of the Lord.” This is based on St. Paul’s letter to the Ephesians when he says, “You are strangers and aliens no longer. No, you are fellow citizens of the saints and members of the household of God.” (Ephesians 2:19) With this knowledge, we shouldn’t just look at the structure of the church and think, “That’s a beautiful build-ing,” but rather, “Faith tells me there is the body of Christ.” When we see the door, we should say, “I cross the threshold into the Holy of Holies. Now I enter into the Garden of Eden. I enter into paradise!”

Give us the grace…

When the sacredness

of life before birth is

attacked, to stand up

and proclaim that no

one ever has the au-

thority to destroy

unborn life.

more about growing their family through infant adoption, please contact Lori Titsworth at 620-792-1393, or by email

PRAYER FOR AN END TO INFANTCIDE: The U.S. Senate recently failed to pass the Born-Alive Abortion

Survivors Protection Act, but that is not the end of the story. This bill, rooted in our most fundamental human values, is

worth fighting for. It would prohibit infanticide by ensuring that a child born alive following an attempted abortion

would receive the same degree of care to preserve her or his life and health as would be given to any other child born

alive at the same gestational age.

Jesus, Lord of Life, transform the hearts of our elected leaders to recognize that infanticide is wrong and

must not be tolerated. We especially pray for our Senators, open their hearts and minds to recognize and

defend the precious gift of every human life.

PRAYER FOR RELIGIOUS LIBERTY: O God, our creator, from Your provident hand we have received our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. You have called us as Your people & given us the right & the duty to worship You, the only true God, & Your Son, Jesus Christ.

Through the power & working of Your Holy Spirit, You call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world, bringing the light & the saving truth of the Gospel to every corner of society.

We ask You to bless us in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty. Give us the strength of mind and heart to readily defend our freedoms when they are threatened; give us courage in making our voices herd on behalf of the rights of Your Church and the freedom of conscience of all people of faith.

Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father, a clear and united voice to all your sons and daughters gathered in Your Church in this decisive hour in the history of our nation, so that, with every trial withstood and every danger overcome—for the sake of our children, our grandchildren and all who come after us—this great land will always be “one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen!

A PRAYER FOR THE FAMILY

Jesus, our most loving redeemer,

You came to enlighten the world

With your teaching and example.

You willed to spend the greater part of Your life

In humble obedience to Mary and Joseph

in the poor home of Nazareth.

In this way, You sanctified that family,

which was to be an example for all Christian families.

Graciously accept our family,

which we dedicate and consecrate to You this day.

Be pleased to protect, guard and keep it

in holy fear, in peace,

and in the harmony of Christian charity.

By conforming ourselves to the Divine model of Your fam-

ily. Amen
