Background Information Puritanism derived from the Church of England in
the early 1600’s King Henry VIII pulled himself from the Roman
Church in order to divorce his wife Puritans then attempted to reform the Anglican
Church brought them to the New World for freedom of
their religion resulted in forming the Massachusetts Bay
Company
The basis of Puritan belief was the sovereignty of God
“God directs all things by exercise of his will and directs all things to an intelligent end.”
Used the Bible as their weaponscripture was considered “true law” more partial to the teachings of the
