“It’s very moving,” Allardsaid. “It’s very nice to get toparticipate in a prayer serv-ice like this with your chil-dren.”
The prayer service wasorganized as part of theschool’s National CatholicSchools Week celebration. The theme for this year’scelebration was “faith, aca-demics and service” andstudents undertook severalcommunity service projectsthroughout the week.
Students delivered cook-ies to local fire depart-ments, food baskets to St.Luke’s Free Clinic and Jen-nie Stuart Medical Center
and visited Covington’sConvalescent Center.
Wednesday’s activities fo-cused on prayer for soldiersas well as national and stateleaders. Seventh-grade stu-dents wrote letters to staterepresentatives. Kinder-garten and eighth-gradestudents had a prayer serv-ice at Kentucky VeteransCemetery-West.
Emily Humphries, a sixth-grade teacher at the school, said each teacher had tocome up with two serviceprojects for the week. Inpreparing the prayer serv-ice, she said the studentslearned about the history ofthe Gander crash.
“Some of them go back
and forth past this (park) allthe time but none of themknew the history,”Humphries said. “Theywere excited about it.”
This was the third yearthe prayer service was of-fered. Sarah Kranz, theschool’s principal, thinksthe ceremony is appropri-ate considering the numberof military families theschool serves.
“We have military fami-lies and we just felt thatsince this day is dedicatedto servicing our nation thatwe needed to rememberthose people,” Kranz said.
