is broadly tested and supported on the following operating systems:

 Window 7, Professional, Ultimate & Enterprise , 32-bit version

Window 7, Professional, Ultimate & Enterprise, 64-bit version

 Window 8, Professional & Enterprise, 64-bit version

 Window 8.1, Professional & Enterprise, 64-bit version

The LMS Test.Lab 15A standard installation is compiled in 32-bit mode. There

is however a benefit of using LMS Test.Lab 15A on Microsoft Windows 7 64-

bit: whereas for the classical 32-bit operating system the maximum memory

space for LMS Test.Lab is limited to 2GB, this increases to 4GB when using the

Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit .

Although Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit claims full support of 32-bit

applications, verification has indicated the following restriction for Sound

Diagnosis & Replay (TL-ACT.58.2/3):

Replay to Head Acoustics HPS with RME audio card does not transfer

HMS encoding. Workaround: set Field type and range manually on HPS

Siemens PLM Software has developed a genuine 64-bit version for most LMS

Test.Lab applications, which is available on request. The 32-bit version being

the advised one, the 64-bit version brings improvement in those cases of very

high memory demands.

Section 2.3 Interoperability with Office (Word and PowerPoint)

Test.Lab supports interoperability with Microsoft Office 2007, Office 2010 and

Office 2013 (excluding Office 365).

Analyze related data easily with extended coupled cursors

The coupled cursors functionality, allowing direct interactive comparison of

data in various formats, is further extended to include coupled cursors on axis

with related units. When a cursor is selected on an absolute time X-axis,

coupled cursors will also appear in those pictures showing the corresponding

throughput time or rpm as X-axis. This functionality is also supported in active

pictures.

 General display enhancements

The Y-axis context menu is extended with:

A "more" selection to switch to alternate unit labels of compatible

quantities. The extended list also indicates the quantity case.

 Hatching in the octave display

Weighting in octave and spectral displays. The overall level bar adapts.

 New "keep peaks" smoothing.

 3D displays enhancements

The geometry and 3D animation displays are extended with a copy/paste format

capability. This allows aligning the viewing angle and other display features

between views within the same quad display or across displays easily. Settings

from a left/right display can be copied to a upper/lower display, or settings from

a single display can be copied to a quad display. This functionality is not

supported in ODS and time animation yet.

The font size of the nodes in display can be selected as small, medium or large.

 Data Management

LMS Test.Lab 15A supports ASAM ODS standard 5.3.

Section 3.3 Acquisition applications

Sorting and filtering in the channel list

To facilitate defining, modifying and reviewing channel parameters for high-

channel count configurations, advanced filter and sort capabilities have been

introduced in the LMS Test.Lab 15A channel list. Rows of channels are hidden

based on filter operations on the properties defined in the channel list columns.

It is possible to combine filters for different properties.

 Extended support of SCADAS XS

The LMS Test.Lab 15A Impact Testing workbook supports the handheld LMS

SCADAS XS in front-end mode over USB-3. The LMS Test.Lab Signature

Acquisition and Testing workbooks and add-ins, and the Sound Intensity

Testing workbook supported the LMS SCADAS XS since Rev 14A.

 Extended CAN & FlexRAY support

With LMS Test.Lab 15A, the user can modify or add CAN settings such as the

selection of the .dbc file, the selected channels and their units in that file, and

apply these changes without the need to close and reopen the .lms project file.

The CAN and/or FlexRAY channels will appear in the channel list after an

"apply" action of the user. The corresponding point ids can be edited, and the

channels can be switched on and off as regular channels.

As data for many of the CAN channels is available on the vehicle bus at (very)

low update rates only, the corresponding fixed-sample-rate traces often appear

to be step-functions. In LMS Test.Lab 15A, the user can opt to apply

interpolation between consecutive CAN-message values, and thus record a

smoothed trace.

Support of the OBD-II On-board Diagnostics bus

On all LMS SCADAS devices, including LMS SCADAS XS, all CAN modules

(except CN-2) support now the OBD-II on-board diagnostics data-stream. This

provides standardized access to status parameters of various subsystems of

almost any vehicle, through a J1962 connector. Older LMS SCADAS hardware

requires a firmware update to activate OBD-II support.

In the LMS Test.Lab 15A workbooks supporting CAN, the OBD-II channels

are handled in a similar way as CAN channels.

New Pass-by Noise solutions for track-based and in-vehicle testing

The LMS SCADAS solutions portfolio includes a new generation of hardware

supporting all measurement scenarios for exterior Pass-by Noise testing, using

Page 17: Release notes Test - Siemens PLM Communitycommunity.plm.automation.siemens.com/siemensplm/attachments/... · This document describes the LMS Test.Lab Installation procedure. Although

track-based or in-vehicle configurations. LMS Test.Lab 15A further extends the

application software for interior and exterior PBN, covering the latest standards

and including a driver’s aid to maximize the rate at which valid tests can be

performed.

LMS SCADAS Dual Video Camera Module

The LMS Test.Lab 15A Durability Acquisition, Durability Recording,

Acquisition Setup and Time Data Acquisition workbooks support the new LMS

SCADAS CIM-2 Dual Video Camera input module. With this module, video

images from 1 to 30 fps for 2 SONY SNC-CH110 cameras are recorded and

stored in one mp4 file for each camera. The resolution and aspect ratio is user

selectable. The cameras use Power-over-Ethernet through the same rugged

LEMO cable connection to the SCADAS module that also transfers the video

images. The video recording as such is supported in LMS SCADAS Recorder

mode, and not yet supported in front-end mode.

 LMS SCADAS VCF4 module

The LMS SCADAS VCF4 supports four channel signal conditioning and signal

processing for ICP and piezoelectric/charge sensors in one LMS SCADAS Lab

slot. Each VCF4 channel offers the unique combination of a floating input and

an analog monitoring output. For each channel, a monitoring output is available

through a grounded CAMAC connector.

Automatic start of LMS SCADAS Recorder data recording

In the template definition for the LMS SCADAS Recorder, the user can opt for

an automatic start of the acquisition when the boot sequence of the recorder is

completed. A new generation power supply makes the LMS SCADAS Recorder

automatically boot when external power is switched on.

User selectable Bluetooth ON/OFF on LMS SCADAS Recorder

In the template definition for the LMS SCADAS Recorder, the user can opt to

switch the Bluetooth communication off. Doing so, the LMS SCADAS

Recorder can no longer connect over Bluetooth to the LMS Smart Control on a

tablet and thus functions in full autonomous mode.

The newest generation LMS SCADAS Recorder supports WiFi to communicate

between the LMS Smart Control tablet instead of Bluetooth.

 Data acquisition hardware traceability

The front-end description file (.fec) is automatically duplicated with a copy of

which the filename includes the front-end type and serial numbers of master &

salve frames.

Section 3.4 Rotating Machinery Testing

Section 3.4.1 Signature acquisition & processing

 Extended missing pulse correction

In LMS Test.Lab 15A, the capability to correct rpm signals for various

configurations of missing pulses is further extended. In case of magnetic pick-

ups for example, the pulses before and after the missing one(s) are typically also

distorted. The user has various new options to skip such pulses, and missing and

double pulse corrections can now be enabled separately. The settings can thus

be optimized to obtain the best possible instantaneous RPM values even for

very irregular pulse trains and/or poor pick-ups. These correction settings are

available as well for online and offline tacho handling.

Support of Resolvers to measure absolute angle and rotational speed

Resolvers are more and more used to obtain shaft angle position and/or speeds

of electrical motors. In LMS Test.Lab 15A Virtual Channels and Time Signal

Calculator, the resolver signals can be directly demodulated to measure absolute

angle and shaft speed.

 Cycle based angle vs. time

The LMS Test.Lab 15A Time Signal Calculator support the WRAP_ANGLE

function to convert a continuous angle vs. time trace into a saw-tooth function,

using a cycle definition by the user in the angle units. The user can thus quickly

evaluate the occurrence of specific phenomena in relation to cycles, without the

need to switch from the time domain to the angle domain.

 Peak-to-Peak amplitude format for spectra

To allow for immediate interpretation of spectral harmonic content as peak-to-

peak amplitudes, a peak-to-peak amplitude format has been added as extra

option in the channel processing tabs.

Section 3.4.2 Angle Domain Acquisition & Processing

In LMS Test.Lab 15A, the angle domain processing is extended with new

functions.

The "gated block" function cuts segments between user defined angle values per

cycle, to calculate frame statistics such as MIN or MAX in these specific

segments. In a similar way, the signal value at specific angle positions for each

cycle can be extracted.

To avoid aliasing in the order domain, the user can select appropriate anti-

aliasing filters when doing spectral processing on angle domain data.

Section 3.5 Structural Acquisition

Section 3.5.1 Impact Testing

LMS Test.Lab 15A Impact Testing supports the LMS SCADAS XS handheld

front-end. Using e.g. a Microsoft Surface Pro or Panasonic Toughpad tablet

PC, and combined with the LMS Test.Lab operational data acquisition &

analysis workbooks, this offers the user a powerful and extremely portable

solution for NVH troubleshooting.

Section 3.5.2 MIMO FRF

With LMS Test.Lab 15A, the “shaped pure random” excitation mode is added

to the list of excitation modes supported in the MIMO FRF workbook. The

excitation spectra can be arbitrary shaped, and the energy is distributed over the

full bandwidth, thus not limited to the spectral lines.

New phase randomization approaches are available for the periodic random and

pseudo random modes of excitation.

Section 3.5.3 MIMO Sine Sweep and Stepped Sine Testing

Maximum excitation frequency for MIMO SINE is increased to 40 KHz

The maximum excitation frequency supported by the LMS Test.Lab 15A

MIMO Stepped Sine and MIMO Swepped Sine Testing workbooks is increased

to 40 KHz, to better support resonance identification on small, light and stiff

components such as turbine blades. Depending on the LMS SCADAS hardware

configuration, this maximum frequency might not be available. In this case a

software warning is given.

Extension of excitation modes for system identification prior to MIMO Sine tests

All excitation modes as available in the LMS Test.Lab MIMO FRF workbook

are now supported in the system identification stage of the MIMO SINE

workbooks. This includes pseudo- and periodic random, true (shaped) random

and arbitrary source signals.

Section 3.5.4 MIMO Normal Mode Testing

 "Reaching Abort Level" warning

A message warns the user that the levels on a channel are reaching the abort

levels. This allows you to avoid unwanted aborts, e.g. during manual tuning.

The levels at which green/orange/red warnings are generated are user definable.

Recording time data for a tuned mode

LMS Test.Lab 15A Normal Mode Testing provides the option to record & save

time series once a mode is tuned, along with the mode-set and spectral data.

This offers the possibility to analyze these time data offline using various

processing methods. The sample rate and duration are user definable.

Rev 15A 21

Section 3.6 Structural Analysis

Section 3.6.1 Modal Analysis

LMS Test.Lab 15A Modal Analysis supports Generalized Modal Mass

calculation. This calculation uses a scaling scheme in which the maximum

shape value of each modal vector is scaled to unity prior to calculating the

modal masses.

The FRF synthesis tools are expanded with "partial band synthesis". This

enables quick validation and residual error quantification between measured

and synthesized FRF, when comparing various modal parameter estimation

results in a limited frequency band. This is useful when analyzing &

selecting closely spaced or highly coupled modes. Multiple band selection

criteria are available, and the resulting partial FRF can be stored for

comparison & reporting purposes.

An automatic save mode is available. Activating this mode will

automatically save the modal analysis results for each calculation in the

active project/section, without further user interaction.

New point/DoF filters are supported to facilitate the creation of a subset of

measured DoF before analysis or visualization.

Section 3.6.2 Geometry

The geometry and 3D animation displays are extended with a copy/paste

format capability. This allows aligning the viewing angle and other display

features between views within the same quad display or across displays

easily. Settings from a left/right display can be copied to a upper/lower

display, or settings from a single display can be copied to a quad display.

This functionality is not supported in ODS and time animation yet.

The font size of the nodes in display can be selected as small, medium or

large.

Section 3.7 Environmental Testing

Section 3.7.1 All Control workbooks

 Notching & Limiting Prediction

To avoid over-testing, notching and limiting are often applied to set safety

Page 22: Release notes Test - Siemens PLM Communitycommunity.plm.automation.siemens.com/siemensplm/attachments/... · This document describes the LMS Test.Lab Installation procedure. Although

22 Test.Lab Release notes

limits on absolute accelerations, reached at resonant conditions. In LMS

Test.Lab 15A, the effect of notching & limiting profiles can be predicted

upfront, based on the structural dynamics characteristics as measured on the test

item itself during a low level excitation validation tests or preceding full level

vibration control tests. Various selection & display options are supported to

analyze the predictions before or during the test preparation. The add-in is also

supported in the LMS Test.Lab 15A Desktop.

In LMS Test.Lab 15A Sine Control, a separate setting is introduced to define

the action to be taken when overload on the notch channels would occur. This

setting is clearly separated from the actions requested for control and

measurement channels.

 Test setup logging

LMS Test.Lab 15A automatically generates a nicely formatted "print-setup"

MS-Word document with the relevant parameters for the actual test run, and

attaches this to the run folder for each vibration control test.

Section 3.7.2 MIMO Random

Profile Matrix from operational data sets

In LMS Test.Lab 15 the profile matrix can be filled automatically using e.g. a

PSD or CSD data set from an operational test. The application will use the Point

ID’s to map the measured data on the target profile matrix cells. This new

functionality eliminates the need for manual interaction during the profile

matrix generation, but requires full consistency between measurement node

naming in the operational data set(s) and the MIMO vibration control set-up.

Section 3.8 Acoustic Testing

Section 3.8.1 Material Testing

 Sound Absorption Testing in room

LMS Test.Lab 15A adds a new dedicated application for Sound Absorption

testing in reverberant rooms. The LMS Sound Absorption Testing in room

Workbook is an easy and intuitive application that guides the user through full

size reverberation room measurements (according to ISO 354 and ASTM C423)

or scaled rooms (alpha cabin method) measurements.

This workbook measures sound absorption for inhomogeneous and large

dimension samples or full objects (i.e. car seat), for random incidence sound, in

a more realistic environment with respect to the absorption in tube methods with

normal incidence.

Page 23: Release notes Test - Siemens PLM Communitycommunity.plm.automation.siemens.com/siemensplm/attachments/... · This document describes the LMS Test.Lab Installation procedure. Although

Chapter 3 What’s new in LMS Test.Lab 15A?

Rev 15A 23

Sound Absorption Testing using impedance tube

LMS Test.Lab 15A Sound Absorption Testing using impedance tube has been

executed with new capabilities: (1) measure with different tubes and merge the

results in a single final curve. (2) As recommended by the standard, a sufficient

number of test samples must be tested to obtain statistical reliable data. This

statistical analysis is now integrated in the workflow of this workbook in order

to simplify the procedure for the user.

The new LMS Test.Lab 15A Sound Absorption Testing using impedance tube is

easier and more compact than in the past, and better guides the user through the

full test procedure

Section 3.8.2 Sound Quality Metrics

Time Varying Sharpness The set of Sharpness metrics is extended with a series of Time Varying

Sharpness metrics for diffuse and free field conditions. The original LMS

Test.Lab as Aures (absolute) as DIN45692 (Von Bismark) methods are

supported as well.

Section 3.8.3 Sound Power

 ISO 3744:2010 Sound Power

LMS Test.Lab 15A supports ISO 3744:2010 Sound Power calculations during

the measurements (online, Signature Acquisition workbooks) and in throughput

processing mode (offline, Signature Throughput Processing workbook) for

engineering analysis and for certification. This requires the add-ins ANSI/IEC

Octave Filtering (RTO) and Sound Power based on Sound Pressure. The user is

guided through the various steps of the measurement process. The appropriate

background noise and environmental correction factors are fully supported, and

the application validates compatibility with the ISO3744 standard. Warning

messages are generated when the actual set-up parameters deviate from the

standard.

The Sound Power procedure is supported for stationary as well as for time

varying (tracked mode) tests.

Section 3.8.4 HD and 3D Acoustic Camera

Batch processing & comparison of multiple data sets

of large data volumes. A 64-bit processing kernel boosts productivity by

significantly reducing processing time.

In the LMS Test.Lab Array Data Comparison & Reporting Workbook different

processing results from multiple test runs are compared directly, side by side.

This considerably speeds up the interpretation of test results, come to the right

conclusions, and translate these into actionable reports. Localization results

obtained from different methods and frequency bands, distributed over different

databases, can be selected and lined up for display. Convenient side-by-side

comparison of sound source localization results for different design

modifications and frequencies speeds up analysis & reporting.

 Background picture handling

Other new LMS Test.Lab 15A features include the import, appropriate resizing

and array centering of pictures taken upfront. To easily switch from far-field to

near-field measurement, also a new picture zooming capability is introduced.

Section 3.8.5 Pass-by Noise

Covering the next PBN standards for EV and In-Room PBN

PBN standards are evolving rapidly. Certification methods get ever more

stringent and noise emission limits ever lower. In parallel with the introduction

of the new LMS SCADAS hardware solutions for track-based and in-vehicle

PBN testing, LMS Test.Lab 15A further extends the support of the latest

standards and procedures, while keeping a clear focus on productivity,

efficiency and engineering insight.

To align with the latest developments in the ISO and UN/ECE GRB

workgroups, LMS Test.Lab 15A introduces 2 new standards:

ISO16254 (equivalent to SAE J2889-1): a standard for hybrid and electrical

vehicles imposing minimum noise limits on cars driving at slow speeds

and/or at stand still positions

ISO 362-3 describing certification using an in-room PBN set-up, requiring

the derivation and inclusion of a tire noise model based on exterior PBN

measurements

Both standards will be part of the legislation around the world in due time, and

are supported in the LMS Test.Lab 15A software.

Guiding the test driver with the PBN Driver’s Aid app

The LMS Smart PBN Driver’s Aid app runs on a tablet and interacts with the

new SCADAS-based PBN hardware to provide real-time information to the

driver on actual & target speed, and on vehicle position. This helps drivers

maximize the success rate of executing valid PBN runs, something which is not

obvious anymore with the new where the vehicle needs to drive 50km/h at the

center line during acceleration. After validating the kick-down point, the target

approach speed is automatically updated to be aligned with the ISO362:2007

standard, and shown on the Smart DA app in the vehicle. This helps drivers

meeting the target center speed, and improves the overall testing productivity.

 Engineering insights from TPA/ASQ analysis

The LMS Test.Lab 15A Interior and Exterior Pass-by Noise solutions

seamlessly link into the LMS Test.Lab TPA/ASQ application workbooks for

root cause contribution analysis. The various contributions can be analyzed in

detail in a PBN-specific tab-sheet of the TPA workbook.

Section 3.8.6 Transfer Path Analysis

 TPA-based sound quality engineering

The LMS Test.Lab TPA Synthesis Workbook extends the use of conventional

and full binaural TPA models for sound design and sound quality engineering.

Replay and filtering capabilities allow you to make decisions faster and better,

based on a combination of objective and subjective criteria.

During replay, paths can be activated, deactivated or filtered in real-time,

enabling you to assess individual paths or group contributions for various

operating conditions. Output signals are processed in real time for objective

evaluation. These new source-ranking functions can be used for

troubleshooting, refinement, or as part of a target cascading process to vehicle

subsystem levels.

LMS Test.Lab 15A extends the capabilities of the TPA Synthesis workbook by

facilitating the comparison between different "what-if model modifications".

The user can save these different "views" created by switching paths on or off,

applying specific filters or scale factors etc. He also can save the synthesized

target data sets for these views. The application provides guidance by proposing

filenames based on e.g. the path grouping or view definitions. For immediate

subjective comparison between different modifications, the user can switch

during the audio replay directly between various saved models, uploaded in the

playlist. These synthesized targets can be further processed to obtain Sound

Quality metrics, for quantification of the changes against the original measured

situation.

Section 3.9 Time Data Acquisition

The Time Data Acquisition section groups the products related to the LMS

Test.Lab Durability portfolio: Durability Recording, Durability Acquisition and

Durability Processing. With the release of LMS Test.Lab 15A, a separate

Desktop workbook has become part of this portfolio, and a new Time Data

Acquisition workbook is added, to support more generic throughput acquisition

tasks. Application specific defaults differentiating between Durability, NVH or

generic use cases can be selected at installation.

Section 3.9.2 Acquisition Setup

The LMS Test.Lab Acquisition Setup workbook covers the functionality to

define the measurement setup and manage the channel lists, functionalities

which are shared across the Durability Recording, Durability Acquisition and

Time Data Acquisition workbooks. Following new capabilities are introduced

with LMS Test.Lab 15A:

Extended support of LMS SCADAS XS

The LMS Test.Lab 15A Acquisition Setup workbook now also supports the

definition of autonomous recording setups for the LMS SCADAS XS (recorder

mode).

The LMS Test.Lab 15A Time Data Acquisition workbook supports the LMS

SCADAS XS in front-end mode.

 Extended CAN support

With LMS Test.Lab 15A, the user can modify or add CAN settings such as the

selection of the .dbc file, the selected channels and their units in that file, and

apply these changes without the need to close and reopen the .lms project file.

The CAN channels will appear in the channel list after an "apply" action of the

user. The corresponding point ids can be edited, and the channels can be

switched on and off as regular channels.

As data for many of the CAN channels are available on the vehicle bus at (very)

low update rates only, the corresponding fixed-sample-rate traces often appear

to be step-functions.

(except CN-2) now support the OBD-II on-board diagnostics data-stream. This

provides standardized access to status parameters of various subsystems of

almost any vehicle, through a J1962 connector. Older LMS SCADAS hardware

requires a firmware update to activate OBD-II support.

In the LMS Test.Lab 15A workbooks supporting CAN, the OBD-II channels

are handled in a similar way as CAN channels.

 Channel Setup extensions

The active channel list with user-definable view configurations (including

selection, sorting, filtering and grouping of channel list properties) is further

enriched with:

Extended support of class I and II TEDS formats (IEEE 1451.4). This

includes a.o. support of offsets & limits, interactive/selective acceptance of

TEDS properties for individual or subsets of channels.

Support of multiple sensor databases via ODBC, with a user defined

hierarchy. Similar to TEDS, an interactive/selective acceptance of read-out

properties is supported.

In support of NVH specific recording and throughput acquisition scenario’s,

three types of binaural channels are supported:

 The LMS Analog Binaural Headset

 Conventional Analog binaural transducers

Digital binaural transducers (SPDIF, e.g. from Head Acoustics, including

support of relevant HMS parameters)

The corresponding channel properties include channel coupling, equalization

state, sound field definition, and range definition in dB.

In LMS Test.Lab 15A, the supported calibration procedures are extended and

now include AC calibration in linear or dB units. Calibrators can be selected

from a list of commercially available calibrators (e.g. from G.R.A.S or B&K).

The calibration setup is automatically adapted using the calibrator parameter

such as level, unit format and calibration frequency.

Section 3.9.3 Durability Recording and Acquisition

The LMS Test.Lab Durability Recording Workbook allows to set up a channel

configuration, scope data, write SCADAS Recorder templates and import

SCADAS Recorder files (*.trp). The functionality is tuned to the SCADAS

Durability Recorder autonomous recording use cases.

The LMS Test.Lab Durability Acquisition workbook adds the direct

measurement of throughput files to a PC harddisc (LMS SCADAS front-end

mode) and support the calculation of virtual channels during such front-end

measurement or at import of Recorder file (*.trp). The calculation of advanced

statistics is also supported.

With LMS Test.Lab 15A, several extensions are introduced to further complete

the coverage of multi-sensor-type test setups by the Durability Acquisition and

Durability Recording workbooks. This functionality is shared with the

Acquisition Setup Workbook, and the details can be found in the corresponding

section above.

Section 3.9.4 Durability Online Processing

This add-in on top of the LMS Test.Lab Durability Acquisition Workbook

performs on-line calculations of counting operations, such as rain-flow and

histograms, during scoping or front-end data acquisition. The appropriate

parameters for pre-processing (e.g. hysteresis filtering) can be set by the user.

The supported histogram functions are Range Pair, Level Crossing and Time at

Level.

With LMS Test.Lab 15A, the processing is extended with averaged autopowers.

Section 3.9.5 Time Data Acquisition

The LMS Test.Lab Time Data Acquisition workbook is a new workbook that

targets the coverage of more generic NVH data recording and throughput

acquisition scenarios. With LMS Test.Lab 15A, functional extensions to better

support such test set-ups for generic and NVH specific use cases are released.

As the test set-up definition is shared with the Acquisition Setup workbook, the

details can be found in the corresponding section above.
