Onscreen Audio Meters

The user interface now provides additional audio meters on the audio settings screens so that you can see the actual input level present at each audio input.

Automatic Gain Control for Audio Calls and VCR/DVD Input

This feature provides automatic level adjustment so that VCR/DVD input audio or speech from conference participants connected using an analog phone or Voice over ISDN is at an acceptable and consistent level.

Video TranscodingPolycom HDX 9002 and 9004 systems provide video transcoding. When video transcoding is enabled, each far-site system can connect at a different call rate, up to the maximum rates allowed. The Polycom HDX system negotiates the best video algorithm and resolution between itself and each far site independently, transcoding between them as necessary. If transcoding is disabled, the Polycom HDX system reduces the rate of each far-site connection so that all connections in the call use the same rate.

Software OptionsThe following software options are available.

Internal Multipoint, 4-Port or 8-Port

The 4 Port option allows any Polycom HDX system to host multipoint calls with up to three other sites. The 8 Port option allows the Polycom HDX 9004 system to host multipoint calls with up to seven other sites.

6 Mbps MP (IP Only)

This option allows the Polycom 9004 HDX system to use a total bandwidth of 6 Mbps when hosting multipoint IP calls.

4 Mbps Line Rate (IP Only)

This option allows the Polycom HDX 9001 and 9002 systems to use up to 4 Mbps bandwidth in point-to-point or multipoint IP calls.

VISCA daisy-chaining is not supported. Each camera must be attached to a separate camera/serial port on the Polycom HDX system.

Polycom HDX systems are tested extensively with a wide range of products. The following list is not a complete inventory of compatible equipment; it simply indicates the products that have been tested for compatibility with this release.

Video conferencing systems use a variety of algorithms to compress audio and video. In a call between two systems, each end transmits audio and video using algorithms supported by the other end. In some cases, a system may transmit a different algorithm than it receives. This process occurs because each system independently selects the optimum algorithms for a particular call, and different products may make different selections. This process should not affect the quality of the call.
