When I first came to Cincinnati in 1972, I was envious of classmates who had gone to school with each other since kindergarten. The thought of having long-time friends that you grew up with was foreign to me. Having grown up in an Army household, either I or my friends were moving every two or three years. Today’s celebration of the Most Holy Trinity is about the mystery of God’s own life. Divine Healer, God of Wholeness, we place these parishioners in Your hands; we ask for healing, but also for acceptance of their illness and of Your holy plan. Help them and us to embrace whatever You have in mind for them. Support them in their anxieties, fears, pains, and the frustrations of their illness. Support them with the strength of the Holy Spirit. We ask this in the name of Jesus, compassionate healer of those in need of health and hope. Amen.

STEWARDSHIP

THIS WEEK, FROM THE ST. SUSANNA VINCENTIANS...

As we celebrate the mystery of the Trinity, we also realize the mystery of how much God loves and cares for us each day. Believing in this our lives can then overflow in thanksgiving and praise. The parish Society of St. Vincent de Paul chapter brings the love and care of Jesus to the poor by assisting local families providing food and money for utility, rent and other bills, etc. Thank You!

GOOD-BYE… AND GOD BLESS!!!

We say farewell and thank you to two staff members for their ministry, their loving presence and their gift to St. Susanna…Guy Vanasse and Melissa Capella.

After a great deal of thought, Guy Vanasse decided to step away from his position as music director at St. Susanna. This decision was not an easy one for him since it means no longer celebrating with all of us. Simply put, Guy said, “It’s to spend more time with my wife, Kelly. Now that we are empty-nesters, I have the freedom to travel with Kelly and would like to take full advantage of this. Trying to balance these plans with work would be too difficult.” Guy has been a music minister for 25 years and feels it’s time to make a change.

Melissa Capella has been with St. Susanna for many years as receptionist and lately as confirmation coordinator, Christ Life coordinator, Welcome (CRHP)and Faith formation. She loves working here and has really grown in her position. If you talk to her she will say, however, her heart is in Youth Ministry. Her home parish, St. Margaret of York, offered her a position as Youth Minister and she accepted. How sad for us, but wonderful news for her as this is a position at a church she has desired to serve for some time!

Both Guy and Melissa will be missed. Wish them well… pray for them… and pray for St. Susanna in this time of transition.

WELCOME TO ST. SUSANNA!!!

As we say good-bye to Guy and Melissa, I invite you to welcome two new staff members. They are men of deep faith and love of the Lord. They are excited about joining our staff and ministering to the parishioners of St. Susanna.

After having Guy for 6 years, we are very blessed to find an equally talented person. We have hired Luke Mayernik as our Director of Music. He begins July 1st. He is moving from Austin, TX with his wife. You can Google his name and find lots of his compositions on YouTube. He is amazing on organ and piano.

Also, we have hired Joe Schleicher as an additional Faith Formation person. He begins around the third week of June. He and his family have been in the area since 2013. Most recently he worked at St. Margaret of York. Joe says he strives to glorify God in all that he does. He is passionate about continuing in Catholic ministry and working collaboratively with the staff and parishioners.

NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING

NFP is the application of fertility awareness in order to aid couples in achieving or avoiding pregnancy. Practicing NFP is effective and 100% natural - there are no drugs, chemicals or devices involved, which is one reason many today find it to be a positive and refreshing alternative to contraceptive methods. NFP honors our dignity as persons by respecting the natural rhythms and functions of the body. It is very common to hear couples who practice NFP speak of an increased awe and respect for femininity and their mutual fertility, and a greater sense of empowerment through self-knowledge.

If you are an engaged or married couple and would like to explore the Sympto-Thermal Method of NFP, please visit www.ccli.org for more information or to register for a class. The next local class begins on Sunday, June 10th at 1:30pm at Royalmont Academy.

For Reflection Each person of the Trinity has a mission: The Father creates, the Son saves, and the Holy Spirit sanctifies. Do I thank each one for each one’s gift?

[Jesus said,] “Make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”

Matthew 28:19

The Mission of the Trinity

This detail of the Trinity is part of the very first

fresco Raphael painted for Pope Julius II. Christian iconography commonly represented the Godhead as a triangle with the all-seeing eye in the center, often with rays of glory flooding forth. Yet Raphael chooses to make it much more personal, more real. He depicts the three persons of the Trinity.

God is not merely an idea, a first principle, or a mental criteria for moral choosing, but three real divine persons, each one active in your life. A triune God, an eternal explosion of love in which the Father begins by creating you; the Son continues by saving you; and the Holy Spirit consumes their love by inspiring and sanctifying you.

Although all things change, God never changes. He is still, the point of the pendulum from which all things hang and are supported. He wisely governs with his one hand lifted in authoritative and assuring purpose. In his other hand, the sphere of the world rests secure. His decisions are not arbitrary, swayed by public opinion, or motivated by insecurity needing affirmation. He is who is. It is we who need him and not the other way around.

Yet, his absolute authority doesn’t convert him into an aloof despot. God lovingly takes interest

in everything! Nothing is unimportant—from the greatest things on earth to the smallest minutiae of my day. If it is important to me, it is important to him, and his providential hand keeps it all in balance.
