“We are many parts, we are all one body.” 1 Cor 12:12

Gaudete Sunday December 16, 2018

Repentance for our sins and conversion to the will of God is the essence of St. John the Baptist’s message to the people who came to hear him.

Some thought he was the Messiah. But he told them he was not, that he was not even worthy of removing the sandals of the one who was to come. Yet John also said that each of them could – and must – change. God expects us to show our love for Him by loving our brothers and sisters, especially those in greatest need. “The crowds asked John the Baptist, ‘What should we do?’ He said to them in reply, ‘Whoever has two cloaks should share with the person who has none. And whoever has food should do likewise.’… Exhorting them in many other ways, he preached good news to the people” (Luke 3:10-11,18).

Be generous. Be honest. Be good. This may not sound like too much for God to ask of us. However, some days it may seem impossible to fulfill. When we want to hold back something for ourselves rather than share it with somebody else. When it would be easier to cut corners with integrity than stand up for what’s right. When we simply do not want to take that extra step to help others because they may not deserve it, or it’s just too much trouble. The gift of salvation comes with a cost. Christ sacrificed Himself for us. It is up to us to sacrifice ourselves for Him.

MONTH 3 – Developing Baby –

Your baby is quite active in the womb now - - although her mother won’t feel her for another couple of months. If her mother’s womb had a window, you could watch your spiritually adopted baby squint, swallow and move her tongue. She can make a tight fist if you touch her palm. She is breathing amniotic fluid which continues until birth, although she obtains the oxygen her body needs through the umbilical cord. The baby you are praying for

Tri-Parish Spiritual Adoption Program September 15-Father’s Day ADVENT BABY SHOWER

Please bring NEW gifts, including clothing sizes newborn to 12 months, and place them in the des-ignated area. (See poster for further information.) These gifts will fill the needs of people in our parish, Catholic Family Services, foster homes, hospitals, Birthright, the Free Clinic, domestic shelters, and Native American ministries.

I once heard of a Christian speaker who declared rhetorically, ex-pecting the answer "Yes"': "If you had two houses, you would give one to the poor, wouldn't you?" "Yes," said the man to whom the

question was directed, "indeed I would." "And if you had two cars," went on the speaker, "you would keep one and give the other away?" "Yes, of course," said the man. "And if you had two shirts, you would give one away?" "Hey, wait a minute," said the man, "I've got two shirts."

Today is ‘Guadete’ Sunday, the Sunday to rejoice. Advent is pri-marily a season of joy. We are joyful already now because we know that the Lord will come. Our expectation leads to joy and our joy to the desire to give to others. Real joy always wants to share. It be-longs to the nature of joy to communicated itself to others and to invite others to take part in the gifts we have received. Advent is indeed a time of joyful waiting and joyful giving. The period before Christmas has that remarkable quality of joy that seems to touch all who live in our society. ~Henri J.M. Nouwen
