Thank you for showing interest in the Advanced Short Learning Programme: South African Tree Appraisal Method (SATAM). The programme is aimed at the development of horticulturists and other members of the green industry as tree appraisers, to correctly utilize SATAM for the appraisal of urban trees in South Africa.

Please note: A NQF 7 qualification in horticulture or any environmentally related qualification is necessary to apply for this course.

The registration process:

Submit application form, a certified copy of your ID and certified copies (not older than six months) of your qualifications to: [email protected]

The application and supporting documentation will be reviewed by the Department of Environmental Sciences. If you do not submit all the required documentation or send uncertified documentation, your application will be discarded.

The application will be forwarded to the Centre for Sustainable Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.

The Centre for Sustainable Agriculture and Environmental Sciences creates a student number and invoice for you. This invoice will contain the bank details.

You are responsible to pay the deposit for the Programme and send the proof of payment to the Centre for Sustainable Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. Please send the proof of payment to [email protected] or [email protected]

On receipt of your deposit you will be registered for the modules indicated on your application form.

You will receive an invoice for the outstanding amount from the Centre for Sustainable Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. This outstanding amount has to be paid in full prior to the start of the practical session. Also note that marks will only be released to fully paid up students.

PLEASE NOTE

There is a non-refundable deposit of R1000.00 per module of the advanced programme, payable at registration. The

rest of the amount (R2 000.00) per module, must be paid before the practical/ contact session commences. Should a

student fail to comply with this rule his/her registration will be cancelled and he/she will only be able to register for the

following semester’s intake. . Should you register for all the modules the non-refundable deposit will be R5000.00

It is advised that students complete all of the modules in the same semester. There is a practical/contact session that is presented to assist students with the completion of the portfolios. If a student is unable to complete all of the modules together it is advised that the Tree Identification module be taken first and then the other modules together in the same semester.

Please note: The total deposit amount must be paid upon registration (you are allowed a

two week window - after application, to pay the deposit). If the deposit is not paid, your

application will be cancelled immediately and you will not be able to access the study

material on myUnisa. No late deposit payments will be accepted!!

Yes. Unisa is committed to helping all students achieve their ambitions. We provide assistance throughout the administrative and study processes.

I have a visual impairment. How can I access the study material?

Unisa produces study material in alternative formats, including Braille, large print, audio and electronic. We also request electronic copies of prescribed books from national and international publishers on behalf of our students with disabilities.

If I have a visual impairment, can I still attend discussions and tutorials?

Yes. Unisa provides sign language interpretation services in certain of its contact groups.

Will Unisa’s lecturers and admin staff understand me and my disability?

Yes. Unisa regularly provides disability training and awareness programmes to its members of staff.

Is there help on offer when it comes to assignments and exams?
