SpeakersDr Stuart MasonBVSc (Hons) MANZCVS DACT.

Stuart graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1999. After two years of mixed practice work in West Gippsland Victoria, Stuart moved to small animal practice at Monash Veterinary Clinic. Whilst working at Monash Veterinary Clinic, Stuart has developed a keen interest in Canine and Feline Theriogenology.

In 2005 Stuart became a partner of the practice. Stuart has been instrumental in developing TCI (transcervical insemination) in dogs in Australia, a procedure he has been conducting since 2004. He has had excellent success with this technique, of particular note, success with breeds previously unable to conceive with frozen semen via surgical inseminations in Australia.

In 2012 Stuart became a member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists and in the same year became a Diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologists.

Stuart has special interests in assisted reproductive techniques, pyometra and the effects of nutrition on reproduction.

Assoc. Prof Scott NormanBVSc (UQ) PhD (UQ) Grad Cert Ed (UQ) Diplomate ACT

Assoc. Prof Scott Norman gained specialty training in canine reproduction in the 1980’s while a resident under the supervision of Dr Victor Schille, at The University of Florida. Having to do the reproductive herd health for a 100 bitch breeding kennel stimulated his interest in canine reproduction, performing his first frozen semen surgical AI in 1987. He is currently active in breeding bitches by vaginal and TCI techniques, having a particular interest in evaluation of male fertility.

Scott is a Diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologists, a Member of the Reproduction Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists, and a registered Specialist in Veterinary Reproduction (NSW).

Dr John WattsBVSc (Hons) (Melbourne, 1991) PhD (Melb. 1998) Diplomate ECAR (Europe, 2004) MRCVS

Registered Specialist in Small Animal Reproduction

Dr John Watts is the owner of the practice and our reproduction specialist in small animals. He graduated with honors in Veterinary Science from The University of Melbourne in 1991, after which he worked in private practice and at the RSPCA until 1994. He then obtained extra training by completing a PhD on “Uterine Function and Dysfunction in bitches” from 1994 until 1998 at The University of Melbourne. Diseases of the uterus are very common and serious illnesses of dogs, this work resulted in the development of many new techniques and greatly improved understanding of such diseases.

As a result of these studies, he has received awards and was a finalist in the Young Australian of the Year Awards, Science and Technology section in 1997. He then travelled and lived in the UK for 18 months, working at The Royal Veterinary College, University of London and in private practice in Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex. He is involved in difficult cases in the clinic and of course reproduction patients.

Dr Melanie LatterBVSc Hons1, GCPA, MANZCVS, PhD

Melanie graduated in Veterinary Science from Sydney University in 1986. Initially trained in veterinary pathology including a PhD completed in 1997, Melanie then worked in mainly bovine practice on Norfolk Island, before returning to lecture in veterinary pathology at the University of Queensland.

In 2010 to pursue her life-time interest in animal welfare, Melanie became a Senior Policy Officer in Animal Welfare with the Queensland Department of Agriculture and obtained ANZCVS Membership in Animal Welfare in 2014. She completed a Graduate Certificate in Policy Analysis, prior to working for the Australian Veterinary Association as the Head of Policy and Advocacy, based in Canberra.
