DEAR ASNR MEMBERS, VISITORS, AND NEUROSCIENCE COLLEAGUES:

It is my pleasure to invite you to the ASNR 56th Annual Meeting in the beautiful city of Vancouver, B.C., Canada from June 2–7, 2018. An eventful Symposium and Annual Meeting have been planned at the Vancouver Convention Centre East. Vancouver boasts a downtown metropolis filled with vibrant restaurants, activities, and tourist attractions.

ASNR enthusiastically presents Neuroradiology: Adding Value and Improving Healthcare at the Symposium of the Foundation of the ASNR, as well as the common thread throughout the Annual Meeting. The Foundation of the ASNR Symposium 2018 will be held June 2–3. Implementing a value-based strategy in imaging has grasped the attention of nearly every healthcare provider; in particular with Radiologists understanding that the future will demand their imaging practices deliver better value. Value in healthcare can be defined in many ways but it is typically described as those imaging strategies that yield improved outcomes, lower costs, or both.

The 56th Annual Meeting will continue from June 4–7, with a focus on how to keep up with the constant changes of healthcare reform, maintaining quality, considering cost, and teaching best practices. The theme emphasizes imaging that improves health outcomes, while considering costs, thus adding value. Our discussions will incorporate many innovative approaches to how neuroimaging currently does and will continue to improve overall healthcare performance. Informative updates will be provided on general Neuroradiology and showcase specialty programming from the ASFNR, ASHNR, ASPNR, ASSR, and SNIS.

The heart of the meeting will be invited lectures, original presentations, scientific posters, parallel paper sessions, and educational exhibits.

There will be approximately 40.75 hours of continuing medical education credit available, including at least 14 Self-Assessment Module (SAM) Sessions. We will again feature valuable, non CME “How-To-Sessions” and other offerings sponsored by our commercial partners, updating you on the capabilities and use of their hardware and software. Our special Keynote speaker, Mr. Andy DeLaO will discuss the value of neuroradiology in the changing healthcare environment today.

Among its most valuable functions, the Annual Meeting allows attendees to immerse themselves in innovative brain, spine, and head & neck imaging while connecting with over 1,700 fellow physicians, exhibitors, keynote speakers, and most importantly, colleagues and friends! Please visit the ASNR 2018 Annual Meeting website, where new information is constantly being added. I look forward to an exciting meeting, and extending a warm welcome to you in Vancouver, B.C., Canada!

The Radiology Renaissance: Shaping the Future of Healthcare

Introducing Mr. Andy DeLaO to ASNR 2018 on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 8:00AM PST – 9:00AM PST

This keynote will highlight the changing world of radiology inside of healthcare. Radiologists at one point were referred to as the "doctor's doctor." Radiologists were the trusted advisor to help physicians from primary care to specialists such

as surgeons and oncologists make clinical decisions based on imaging. As technology evolves, the role of the radiologist undergoes transformation. Today we are seeing the emergence of another technology evolution in healthcare. It presents an opportunity for Radiologists to transition once again, but the choices they face today will determine the future role of Radiology.

>>>STUDY GROUPS ASNR Study Groups

CLINICAL TRANSLATION OF FUNCTIONAL DIFFUSION MRI STUDY GROUPMonday, June 4, 2018 | 4:45pm – 6:15pm

The ASNR Study Group for the Clinical Translation of Functional and Diffusion MRI represents an international multidisciplinary endeavor to identify critical knowledge gaps that must be addressed to translate these advanced neuroimaging techniques into sensitive/specific clinical tools for the diagnosis of diseases affecting the brain. The Study Group is comprised of representatives from neuroradiology, neurology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, pediatrics, and the neurosciences, thereby leveraging a broad interdisciplinary perspective to develop a strategic framework of key action items to address these knowledge gaps. To this end, the Study Group has been organized to focus on two primary aims: 1) To investigate the reproducibility of functional and advanced diffusion MRI techniques, which is necessary for translation of these methods into robust diagnostic imaging tools, and 2) To review and disseminate the current evidence to date supporting the use of functional and advanced diffusion MRI methods in clinical practice. Additional manuscripts are being developed to review the methodological breadth of advanced diffusion imaging, as well as the evidence supporting the clinical use of functional and advanced diffusion imaging techniques, as applied to a variety of clinical entities (e.g., psychiatric disease, preterm birth, brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, etc).

INTRACRANIAL AND CERVICAL VESSEL WALL IMAGING STUDY GROUPTuesday, June 5, 2018 | 4:45pm – 6:15pm

With the recent success of high-resolution cervical vessel wall imaging for defining stroke risk beyond that achievable by angiography, the Study Group has now turned its attention to the intracranial vessel wall, a new frontier in neurovascular imaging. Recognizing this, the ASNR has supported the formation of this Study Group which is mandated to take a leading role in advancing both clinical applications and research in this new and growing field. This Study Group is composed of a multidisciplinary team organized to develop methodologies and share clinical expertise for redefining knowledge of both cervical and intracranial vasculopathies. Its primary goals are to establish uniform imaging protocols, promote multi-institutional research, and develop educational programs and materials. This group offers a variety of opportunities for making seminal and impactful contributions in this field.

IMAGING GENOMICS STUDY GROUPWednesday, June 6, 2018 | 4:45pm – 6:15pm

The ASNR Imaging Genomics Study Group serves as a unified voice and body for advancing the clinical and research applications of imaging genomics. For this mission this Study Group is working on the development and validation of imaging genomics biomarkers and biomarker signatures. This Study Group seeks to pool genomic data from multicenter image-guided tumor biopsies in combination with quantitative data from anatomic and physiologic MR. Imaging genomics correlates and investigates the relationship between imaging features of tumors and metabolomic and proteomic expression data to form the most complete imaging-molecular data analysis possible. This Study Group is also focusing on the need for standardization of imaging across vendors, software platforms, post-processing techniques, etc., and on enhancing awareness and multidisciplinary collaboration among the imaging and non-imaging communities to advance imaging genomic paradigms within these fields. This Study Group has finalized for publication the ASNR Imaging Genomics White Paper exploring the current state and future directions of imaging genomics in brain tumors.

Study Groups target areas of critical importance to the field of Neuroradiology and are composed of neuroradiologists, neuroscientists, and investigators from associated disciplines, who are united in their interest in higher level, sophisticated investigations of these target areas. These sessions will be offered during the 56th Annual Meeting. They are open to all attendees on a first-come, first-serve basis. No CME credit will be awarded for these sessions.

Pan Pacific Vancouver HEADQUARTERS HOTEL999 Canada Place, Vancouver, BC

Advance Housing Deposit

WHY IS IT REQUIRED?ASNR has incurred attrition charges for rooms in our hotel block where reservations were cancelled or “no-shows” at the last minute at several of our recent annual meetings. ASNR is charged the room rate plus tax for every room below our contracted numbers. As a part of ASNR’s plan for eliminating attrition, the Advanced Housing Deposit policy was implemented in 2002 along with review of all future hotel contracts, reductions in the contracted hotel room blocks to better reflect current use patterns, and weekly monitoring of hotel reservations for the current year’s meeting.

This plan has been successful in helping ASNR limit the financial burden resulting from high attrition fees. The amount of last-minute cancellations and no-shows has decreased significantly in recent years. As a result, the amount of attrition fees charged to ASNR has also decreased. The forfeited funds resulting from the Advanced Housing Deposit policy has enabled ASNR to pay incurred attrition fees.

If you should have any questions concerning these policies in effect for the ASNR 56th Annual Meeting, please contact:
