What is it? Why are we doing it? How are we doing it?

What is an ORCID?• Started as Open Researcher and

Contributor ID (but now just ORCID).

• 16 digit number; groups of 4 digits.

• Controlled by researcher. • Can suppress select data

elements except the ORCID itself.

• Include with new publications to unambiguously identify the author. (e.g., Bell, D.is NOT Dorothy Bell or David Bell.)
