Brief overview of UCAS

UCAS stands for Universities and Colleges Admissions Service. In effect almost all applications made to

British universities for undergraduate (i.e., first degree Bachelors) level are made through UCAS.

Below you will find detailed instructions on how to register, login and complete most sections of your

application online.

Registering through UCAS online

Go to www.ucas.com

You should see something like the following page:

– Click on the apply link. You should see the following screen shown on the next page:

– Now click on student login for 200? Entry (where “?” stands for the year that you are

applying for).

– The registration window should now pop up.

– Click on the register button as shown above.

* Please note that many of the pages show here may refer to other years. Please ignore this,

the procedure is the same.

When ever in doubt click on help Click on next

Agreeing to the terms and conditions

– If you agree to the terms and conditions click on accept.

Entering your personal details

– In the next few screens you will be asked to put in your personal details.

Don’t worry if you make mistakes you can change them later on.

– Most Grammar School students are in the Non UK/International category.

Click next.

– In the following page you will be asked for an address and whether you would like to

receive university related items. When completed click next in both instances

Choosing a password and obtaining a username

– UCAS will now ask you to choose a password together with a security question in case you

forget it.

– After you click next your username will be given to you by UCAS like in the example on the

next page:

Tip: Write down the password for future reference.

– Both the username and password should be written down and safely kept for later use.

You may now click on log in now in order to login your username and password

appropriately.

Now you can log in, but get some help first

– A tip is to click help whenever in doubt. Above you will notice that information is available

by UCAS called How to apply. Clicking on undergraduate application advice will produce

the screen on the next page:

As you will observe the page seen above is full of information on the application procedure.

Another excellent resource is the www.ucas.tv site.

You should register with the school Buzzword

After you login with your username and password, you will be able to register with the

school’s buzzword and complete your application.

– Click on a school/college.

– You are then asked to type in your Buzzword. The school’s buzzword word for Apply

2013 is grammarschool2014 (lower case) as shown on the next page.

PLEASE NOTE:

All Grammar School students MUST register with the school’s buzzword.

Applications registered through UCAS by another means WILL NOT BE

ACCEPTABLE

You should register with The Grammar School with a Buzzword

– Now click on next.

Confirmation that you are registering with The Grammar School

– Notice that through the buzzword that you typed in, UCAS automatically recognises your

school and asks you to confirm this.

Click on yes.

Click next

You are now ready to begin your application.
